I've been told that the 04's are leaner from the factory and the Stinger pushes it too lean. You'll get more performance by having someone tune it anyway!
I put a mod similar to the cold air mod shown in an earlier thread on my 00 FRC and had surging problems.

I've heard the same thing about the 04's. The codes that popped up were the typical lean codes that everyone gets. I cleared them and will see what happens next. Most likely they will appear again...looks like it just doesn't like the extra air right now.
If it continues, I will just put the stock box back in until I can get it tuned.
Thanks for all of the helpful responses guys! I was just wondering if anyone else had the codes pop up so fast...I thought I'd at least get it down the street before they showed up!
Just to let you know, I did a similar air scoop on my 04Z over a year ago and have not had a problem with codes popping up. I did the complete install from the top side but make my own scoop out of sheet metal, just taking my time on a Sunday afternoon the whole install was about an hour an half, easy mod.
I just installed the Stinger on my 02 Z... have codes and a check engine light after driving it for about 20 minutes... it goes on and off... so I don't know if that means the computer is resetting itself or what... but I will do the relearn when I have time... hope it works for me...
It's almost guaranteed on an 04Z with a Halltech stinger, you will get the check engine light and codes 0171 and 0174. If all your connections are tight, you're either going to have to get the car tuned, install a screened MAF, or you could try the cold air mod which apparently cures the problem. Don't know why 04Zs have a problem, but yours, mine and a lot of other people have had the same problem. By the way, I installed a screened MAF from an 01 Z which cured the problem.

Well at this point things are as follows...I cleared the codes and drove the car about 30 miles or so before they showed back up again. I guess I am one of those lucky ones whose car just doesn't respond well to the mod without tuning to correct the situation. I do plan to do a tune in the near future, but at this point I will most likely reinstall the stock airbox until I can get the car tuned. It's not that much extra work to switch the units out.
Thanks again for all the replies...I appreciate it!
I've had my Halltech installed for about six months,no problems at all.
I had it for about six weeks before it was tuned.
The Halltech is the only Mod on the car. It RWHP is 368 after tuned.
pcmforless.com tuned it on the dyno.
