Default C5 Shopping question

I'll be closing on my house (selling) at the end of Sept. and will shortly thereafter be picking up a C5 for a daily driver. I would like your thoughts on whether to get a coupe or Z06. I will be looking in the mid $20K's range. I like performance, but don't know if a Z06 is roomy enough to be a daily driver.

Is it worth it to find a not so mint condition Z06 for the same price that would get me a very very good condition coupe with less miles?

All opinions welcome, thanks in advance guys!

Is there a difference as far as interior space between a Z06 and coupe?? I know when the top is off our Vert that I have all the head room I need but ummm... I don't understand the first question??

Get what you want... I like the Z06 for HP.. but as I and others have stated before, you can mod the coupe to get the HP you want... and it has the same room as the Z06...?????

Ok, seriously, I think I missed the intent of your question... did you really mean interior space or what?

Hmm I just read your post again... I'll stick to my first answer. As far as room, no problems dude...

Don't forget to WAVE!!

It really depends what you're looking for.....

The Z06 is optimal performance, it's the stiffest body structure, has wider tires and wheels, lightest weight and the most stock HP. The gear ratios are tighter and for all intents and purposes - it's a race car for the street. Sure, it's pretty docile, but when your right foot gets heavy...405HP!

The coupe certainly has more storage capacity with the glass hatch, and you can remove the targa top for a semi-open air driving experience.

Personally I was willing to sacrifice some of the all out performance for being able to remove the top - so I went with a convertible! I love it, but mine's not a DD. I think in all honesty any one of the three would work well, but the coupe is probably the most practical....if a legendary car like the Vette is ever practical!

thanks BlackSedan.. that is the angle i was looking for. I have a 2 seater now with next to nothing for storage room. To me the storage area of the hatch looks like a vast canyon. So that would be a nice change. Then again, I'm used to the peppy response of my current car (330 rwhp / 2650 lbs.)

I just hate to get one and wish i had the other.

Salty_12 the Z06 has about if not the same trunk as a convertible (which is what I have). Supposedly two sets of golf clubs will fit in there. I believe that on the convertible if the top is up, but not with the top down. So I assume the Z06 (FRC body style) will easily accomodate the same.

As far as the degree of throttle response and "peppiness" - the LS1 in it's various forms is no slouch! You didn't say whether you were looking for an A4 or an MN6 - but I assume that if you're considering the Z06, you want a MN6 coupe. I have an MN6 convertible and it flat out flies with a Blackwing and a cat back exhaust. Same would be true with the LS6 in the Z06...only more so!

I really don't think you can make a bad choice, it just comes down to which profile you like better. The coupe would be a little less expensive against a comparable year Z06.

The best thing to do is drive both and make an objective decision. personally I drove a Z06 and didn't like the enclosed feeling and the inability to remove the top. The convertible with the top up is very similar to the FRC, but I can drop the top in less than 30 seconds and it's a totally different experience.

Very well said! I have a coupe and can get loads of stuff in there (top on of course) the top itself sits in the back so with the top off- your room would be a lot less...the Z06\FRC variety has a nice amount of space behind the seats and is open all the way to the rear deck lid. The vert with the top down would take up about have the trunk space you would see in a Z06.

As for a DD, mine is not...but I do get 26+MPG on the highway with an auto...and I hear the MN6\MN12 is better (though with 405HP, I highly doubt you can leave your foot out of it!) I wouldn't be able to!

Congratulations. And, which ever model C5 you decide to get, you will be sure to experience the permagrin phenomenon.
