Hi guys and gals new guy here and I just wanted to say Hi! If you have a second Ill give you a little Bio, Im 38 ,married and 1 beautiful 7yr old little girl.As of yet I dont own a vette but have always wanted one and in the last yr or so my business has grow to the point to where I can afford one well not a new one but a nice 98 or 99 . Ive rode motorcycles about all my life and have a long time love affair w/sport bikes and when one is single you take your lumps but my daughter worries everytime I go out and rightly so , its dangerous out there. So the other day I was thinking about selling my sportbike and getting a softtail harley and slowing things down abit but you know what everyone and their brother has a harley so that was out. Now later that day my daughter and I went to Mcdonalds for lunch (Saturday) when she says LOOK at that COOL CAR and out of the mouth of babes she was looking as a 00 or 01 i think red soft to vette! So I started running some numbers in my head and decided to do what Ive been wanting to do most of my life and so here I am. I know Im gonna have alot of stupid questions to most of you so please bear w/me and Im also a member of other forums so im familure w/ the rules of search before asking. But for my first question , Im gonna be in the market for an 98 or 99 possible a 00 if it was a steal but in those yrs what should I be looking for? Pitfalls? Musthaves? anything you could help me w/ will be helpful also at this point Im not looking for a race car so what should I be looking for there? Sorry this was so long but thanks for listening
welcome and you will never regret getting a vette. I got mine when I was 56 the fullfilment of a life long love affairwith vettes. There are many out there that are affordable good luck with the search. Remember the only stupid question is the one unasked.
You'll find the good the bad and the ugly about these wonderful machines. In looking for your perfect car, the secret is research and more research. The more you know about them and the specific car you're seeking the better the ownership experience will be.
And while it's been said here at least a million times - the only stupid question is the one unasked! We will cheerfully provide stupid answers, though!
I have a '98 that I truly love. Seek the newest lowest mileage car in your price range unless you want a specific color or option not offered on an older car.
Here's another site that will provide you with some information on the difference between model years.....
You will find this is like many of the good forums...I've been to both...
Welcome!
you can say that again! Im a member of a couple bike forums and woodworking forums and there are good and bad. I looked at vette forums for 2 days and this one is the one I wanted to be on! I can tell you anything about bikes but vettes are a diff story but im a quick study.
You'll enjoy the vette much more than a sport bike or Harley. After I bought the vette the bike sat in the garage a lot.
This forum has a wealth of knowledge. I have had almost every stupid or complex question I've asked here answered within a day.
Just be warned, most members end up catching " MOD FEVER" within the first 6 months of owning a vette. Try wear rubber gloves while typing....
Welcome to the forum
I have had bikes all my life and so do and so have alot of other people but you know what? Not everyone has had or ever will have a vette and I want to be one who has and hopefully will continue to have one. Oh and mod fever is fine w/me but as w/my bikes I like to do the mods myself some Im sure is ok but like bikes you dont always know what someone else has done so I would rather have one stock and go from there!
Welcome to the forum. I am no expert, but here are a few things I would look for:
Obviously, Get the newest car with the lowest mileage. If you can swing it, I would try for 2002+ because most of the common problems (oil use, column lock, etc.) were corrected by then. The 2000 model was the first with the millineum 5 spoke wheels. Before that the cars came with "wagon wheels," and many people swap them out which can cost $600- $1200 or more, so if you do not like wagon wheels, it might be cheaper in the long run to buy a later model. I would check the rocker panels to make sure they are not cracked from improper jacking. If you buy a coupe or convertible, and you wish to keep run flats on the car, they are quite expensive, so a good set of tires can save you about 1200 bucks the first year. If possible, I would buy an extended warranty. I wish I had when I bought my coupe. Check the front bumper cover and hood for excessive paint chipping. Look at the wheels for curb rash. Decide which options you cannot live without. Examples, Sport seats? Heads up display? How do you feel about modded cars. If you are not mechanical or just not familiar with C5s, I would find a forum member or a Corvette Specialty mechanic shop (IE Corvettes of Houston) to check out the car before you buy. (I paid $75 to have Corvettes of Dallas check mine out, best money I ever spent) Anyway, I am sure there are others who have much better advice than me, but I hope this helps anyway.
Hi & welcome! This place is the BEST- LOADS of info, & a great way to make new friends. Good luck on your search for the PERFECT vette, their out there, just gotta find 'em.
Welcome to the Forum! Right now is a great time to buy with the newer C6s driving C5 prices down you should be able to pick up a C5 for a great price. First thing to do AFTER you get one is take your daughter for a ride in "that cool car" down to mickey Ds!!!! Then you both can stare at it, and trust me , we all take double and triple takes of our cars when we can. You will think you are going crazy, but it is not only the norm here, it is discussed among us!!

Welcome and good luck finding the right Vette You won't regret it. I've had my first one for a year now and I still can't walk away without turning around. And I admit I look in the garage sometimes before I go up to bed. Is that crazy or what
