Default How do you change back plates

I was trying to switch the back license plates and no obvious answer on taking the trim piece off came to view. The trim piece (backup light and plate plastic trim ) has no visible screws and didn't want to force a snap in or out procedure. No instructions in the owners manual. This is silly! Any help appreciated!!

Are you talking about the piece that goes around the edges of the license plate or the piece on which the license plate is mounted?

If it is the black plastic piece that surrounds the outside edges of the license plate then the way to remove it is to push in the plastic tab on either side of the frame. To locate them look at the inside middle of the frame and you will see that there is a tab on each side. Just push it in with a screw driver and it will release.

If you are talking about the whole license plate area with the back up lights and all then I am afraid I can't help you there.

Try a body shop or a dealership for advice on that one.

Good luck!

I have no idea what you are talking about, but heres my input.

To take the license plate off: 2 bolts/screws on the top, and possibly the bottom. LEFTY LOOSEY.

To take the Backup light assymbly off: 4 phillips scrwes, one in each corner on the inside of the backup lights, between the lenses and the plate area. LEFTY LOOSEY again.

with Scott04Z. Just stick a regular screwdriver into the slots in the middle of the side of the black plastic license plate cover. You pop the tabs out, and the whole cover comes off, exposing the screws of the license plate.

To be very specific, on the inside of the black frame that matches the edge of your license plate you will find two slots on each side. Push a large flat screwdriver into each slot and push in as you gently apply outward pressure on the frame. The black plastic frame has four clips that lock into the bracket. You will feel and see it when the prong clip releases. Continue with the process with the other three "slots". From there if you want to take off the entire rear plate and light assembly, remove the plate and it will expose four #15 torque screws. Remove those and pull the entire assembly staright away for the body. That should get'er done. Denny

There must be a couple of different types of frames. Mine only has one slot/tab on each side. I think two per side is better...maybe I should sue GM for cheating me out of two tabs!

What do you say...can we make this a movement...come on join the fight against GM!
