I know that this forum doesn't condone street racing, I myself am not a huge fan of it. But tonight, I found my foot in my mouth. Yes brothers, I have sinned. I was at work, and for those who live around Aurora, Oswego,Montgomery and Naperville even Plainfield. You guys know where Rush Copley is. Anyway, going back to my story, I was working and I was voted as the designated goffer for food. So I went to El Burrito Loco in Farnsworth Ave. Coming back from the eatery in Farnsworth, I found myself taunted by these kids in probably was a 96 SVT riced out Rustang. Of course, after we both ended up in a stop. The kids ( 3 of them) decided they wanted to rev up the engine which sounded like an empty can anyway, but I really don't know there mods except for the mufflers ( not fart cans-surprised). I did not mind them, but these kids keep taunting me. Light turns green, I took off and I mean took off, I left them and at least about 3-4 car length. I decided to just let it go because I saw them rushing to catch up, so I figured I just make a turn because I thought they were going straight. I went to the left turn lane going into New York St. What the kids did, they deviated from going straight and decided to go behind me and paced me through the turn. As soon as the roads cleared, they gunned for it. Me becoming immature now decided I'm not going to let them pass me, and they were already beside me at that time, I decided to gun it too and left them again another 1-2 car lengths. After that, I thought it was getting out of control and I slowed down and let them pass me, and it was good timing too because there were a couple of squad cars accross the street. I know it was immature of me doing street racing, but I think I know why some people do it, it is an adrenalin rush. I was still shaking when I got back to work. But I'll try to control myself next time coz I don't want to say never.

As a member of the clergy I officially absolve you of your transgression. I might just remind you though that confession means you are sorry for what you did. The big step is repentance which means that you have a change of mind and behavior which results in never committing the transgression again.
Which one of the two describes you now? I suspect, based on the adrenalin rush, that you may be tempted to sin again!
Some wise person (or wise guy) once said: "It is easier to get forgiveness than permission"!
Now that I have delivered my message to you...I must confess...I too have sinned!
Not to harp on you or anything but here in California if you street race they can take your car now.
My brother and I were out in the Vette the other day. One of those new Minis was buzzing around us, weaving through traffic, basically being an ***. By chance we got beside him at a stoplight a minute or so after he had buzzed past us. He had his window down - my brother yelled over to him "how many batteries does that thing take". He looked over, smiled, and then looked away. His girlfriend was in the passenger seat laughing. I almost felt bad for the guy.
The moral of my story is there are ways to put these guys in their place without risking a hefty ticket and possibly having your car taken away.

i've been tempted by mustangs but never take the bait. i have absolutely nothing to gain or prove by racing someone i don't even know & could care less about. moreover, the odds of injuring or killing someone escalate exponentially when engaging in sheer wreckless driving. you dodged a bullet since nothing happened during your wreckless run-----i'd strongly suggest for public safety that you don't race on public roads. frankly it's stupid & incredibly dangerous. bub

Trust me, the adrenalin rush that I felt did not just come from being excited, it was scary at the same time. You're right, I could have been in an accident. 2 things "COULD HAVE" had happened to me or to other drivers. "JAIL or MORGUE" both of which I do not want to dream off of being in. That's why after the second run, I decided to be the one with the common sense even though I think it's a little too late. Better late than never I suppose.
You have to watch what you post here on the forum....there are many people here who like to stone sinners such as yourself. For my part I say good for you ......these cars are built for the sole purpose of planting your *** in the seat and putting a smile on your face.

I also know what you're saying, I just wish that I can show these kids what a stock C5 can do legally, I know I'm not the fastest but somebody has to show these kids that just because there rides are riced doesn't mean they can challenge anybody on the street. I know I know I stooped down to their level of thinking and not be the bigger guy to stand up against street racing. Oooops, here I am again with my adrenalin boiling up.
Isn't that the reason we buy these cars, because of the adrenaline rush and the power? I have to get on it at least once every time I drive my car, but I always do it on an open road that is not usually patrolled. I know that a lot of folks like these cars because they make them feel young again, but just because you "feel" young doesn't mean that you have to "act" young. I'm not trying to bash anyone here, but just make sure that you are careful with the power you have and be content knowing that you have the best American made mass production car EVER built.
I don't have a problem with it as long as he is careful and not act like a street racer on the STREET
remember you telling me this a few days ago in the thread about a teenager getting a vette???? That's all I'm gonna say about that one. HAHA Good job dude.

Well, I used to be challenged on the road all the time it seemed (mostly from mustang types) a couple years ago. And yes, I took up most challenges (and always won).. BUT, yes, that was wrong of me. HOWEVER, more to the point, I've not been challenged in a long long long time. Maybe more strict laws have tamed the street-racers.. or maybe they finally figured out that the Vettes really are as fast as they've heard and have finally given up. Either way, I enjoy my ride more without having to worry about someone trying to test me.

Yes, I remember that, and yes you have a right to rub it in, but I also said this when I started this thread
But tonight, I found my foot in my mouth.
And no, I'm not specifically pertaining to you, what I meant was teenagers or not, if you use a car for street racing as I did, you are essentially using your car as a deadly weapon, might as well shoot somebody on the street without reason. I made a mistake and I admit it. But look at this at my end. If I, a 34 y/o old guy can be tempted to street race by kids, what more of a teenager with ( peer pressure, ego tripping) around him 24 hrs a day/7 days a week. So yes, again, go ahead and rub it in. But when you find yourself tempted by your peers to street race just because you have a Corvette. We'll see what you have to say then. Good luck when you get your Vette, and good luck avoiding temptation.

If you want to do it "legally" try a local drag strip.....otherwise don't be so hard on yourself. I get some of the most rediculous people pulling up next to me on a regular basis...99% aren't worth the cost of gas and I don't give them more than a quick glance....but it's real hard not to "defend" your well placed Corvette Pride when a Stang, Viper, or over-priced riced-up import wants to go.
As dangerous as it is to do street racing it also would be very bad on your insurance to get a ticket for racing. You could probably buy a lot of mods for what your premiums would be. Next time someone pulls up to you wanting to race, just start patting your dash and say she's already eaten today. Also, IBTL.
