If It Matters - I Have An 02 Z06
Thanks!

I like a short throw between gears and the confident feel that the aftermarket shifter gives me. One of the big reasons I chose the BPP shifter is because it has 16 different possible positions in which it can be mounted. It also comes with different strength springs so that you can customize the shifter's movement to your liking.
If you choose to modify the stock shifter, you are only shortening the unit, not adjusting it's feel or changing it's precision.
It really depends on your own preference, but if you have any performance background or racing experience, you will most likely prefer the aftermarket unit.
The only drawback of the aftermarket shifter is that they tend to be noisier than the stock unit because they don't have the rubber isolater that the stock one has. However, the isolater not only isolates the noise, it also isolates good shifting feel! I can do without it.
Hope this helps your decision making process!
I have a Hurst and love it.
Good luck
Tom

If you do the following mod you will see a tremendous difference

It is not really that much work. I liked it much better than the Hurst that I installed. However I later came across a B&M at such a low price I couldn't pass up trying. I installed that an loved it. But it sat too tall so I cut off about 1 1/2 inches and rethreaded. Now it is exactly what the Z06 should have been in the first place.
I do note however that the modified stock shifter is still smoother than the modified B&M. But the throw is longer/

Again, being shorter does make a difference in the way the shifter feels under action and it can't help but be an improvement over it's original state, but the aftermarket shifters are made generally to be more precise in their movement than the stock unit. The fulcrum point is different which makes the aftermarket shifters feel and work entirely differently than the stock shifter.
