Default WTF is wrong with my Z

Man i have only ahd this car 3 weeks and i love it but i am real concerned i have a major issue:

Today while driving home from a family function all was well i and i was cruising at 75mph when i start hearing this thud, thud, thud coming from the back of the car. At first i though it cant be me. But it was. I would have sworn that i had a flat tire. I moved over and got off of the interstate, no loss of power etc, jus thud thud thud and i think some pulsing fromt he brakes but i was so pissed i could not tell for sure.

I pulled into a subdivision and found a safe place to park got out to find no flat tire, no anything, everything looked fine, no leaking fluid, smok, nothing. All temps were fine. I pull up the codes on the DIC and there were none.

I start the car back up, engine sounds fine etc and as i pull away no noise, brakes work fine etc.

Back on the highway now and nothing. Smooth as silk at 80mph and fine all the way home.

WTF could this be. If i was by myself i would have started to think it was in my head but my fiancee noticed it as well and it was BAD.

Man my 99 would take a beating and love it. This car i am worried to drive now. It is going back to the dealer this week for a full work around:

1) It's popping out of 2nd sometimes when i shift under VERY light load, like at 10-15mph 20% throttle. Never under any other circumstance

2) Clutch stuck to the floor last night when run through the gears at redline (I did a search here and found this is very common i still dont like it)

3) Climate control went Dim (they are replacing it)

4) Now this.

Anyone have ANY idea what this could be. I am think a major transmission issue

Sounds like you were dragging a body for awhile and it broke loose. Just kidding.

I dont know. I just beat the holy hell out of the car for 20 minutes on some backroads and it ran like brand new no issues, etc. Is it possible something was stuck to a tire?? I never say anything on the road and i am very watchful when driving.

This is gonna tick me off. I also found out that the popping out of 2nd is my fault. If you dont firmly put it in gear it will come out, but if i firmly put it in when driving light like i do when driving heavy it is fine.

What could this thud be though?? I dont want to give my car to the careless people at the dealership if there is nothing wrong but i can;t replicate it and it was BAD. I only have 5 weeks of warranty coverage yet,

Any ideas?? Stuck caliper mayber etc??

Maybe lost a wheel weight, and may only happen at a certain speed?

This is a good possibility, but with everything else I would have the dealer go over it. Make your list out ahead of time with as many details as you can remember. Having the balance of the tires checked is a good first step.

I just took it through every speed though and it was fine. I am very perplexed here.

I am sick of worring about this car. My 99 coupe was a timex, it just took whatever you wanted and loved it. THis car worries me. I knew C5's coupes up down left and right. I did not know about valve spring issues, sticking clutches, oil consumeptiona nd all these other issues with the 01 Z06. I hope i did not make a very expensive mistake here.

Any words of wisdom still?? I hate dealing with service departments with an intermittent problem. At this point i am leaning towards one of two scenarios

1) i picked something up in a tire and it fell off??

2) a caliper stuck (But wouldn't this have warped the rotor permanently??)

I am totally baffeled. Last week my cruise control would not engage for like 3 minutes then it finally did would this be a brake sticking again. Maybe the brake was on??? I never use the parking brake so that is not it. I don;t know i am pretty ticked right now.

Any thoughts??

Just lifted the car up and looked under it really good:

No debris in tires, wheels look fine, everything underneath is tight and taut. brake pads, clipers, rotors in fine repair.

I'm at a loss right now. This tuding for lack of a better term was loud and not good and i can't see a damn indicator as to what it was and i can't replicate it. I damn sure need to get it fixed under warranty if possible if something is wrong but what are they gonna look for??

Are the Z06's reliable as the base coupes??

I had a similar situation. I thought I had a flat for sure. Turned out to be the road itself. I was going a bit against the grain of the highway and it seemed to cause the tread to vacillate.

I've had similar odd things happen. The Z will definitely talk to you loudly if the road is just right. Perhaps you can run that section again where you heard the noise...

I was going to say the same. Some roads have joints that cause a loud thud and it's nothing to do with the car. Not all roads are created equal.

Get rid of the spring on your clutch pedal for starters. Thats half the problem with the pedal sticking down after a hard run. That spring is NOT for helping to bring the pedal back up, its duty is to help keeop the pedal down at a stop light and thus causing havoc at other times as well.

It will give you much better clutch feel and manageability also. Best thing I ever did was ditching that spring.

Could be a broken belt in the radial tire.

hmmmm...i may be totally off here but- i've heard that the active handling on these cars have alot of problems. i've even heard that sometimes one of the tires will lock up on it's own if these problems occur. while going at highway speeds one tire locking up should slow the car down some but not neccessarily all the way.

and a caliper sticking will not neccesarily warp the rotor...

maybe have it checked out?? i know i would

That is interesting but wouldn't i see active handling displayed on the DIC??

You have me thinking because the car has 255/45/17 on the front and 395/35/18 on the rear. The stock front size (I believe 265/40/17) was out of stock when he replaced them and maybe i have a stagger proble.

Thing is my other 800 miles at all speed since i got the car have been fine. I drove it to work today and no issues at all.
I am dropping it off at the dealership friday morning with a list of things i want checked.

Still confused.

Default maybe low tire pressure

undefined Helloe new member. I have a 2003 z and had it since new. I had the same thing and my left reartire pressure was low. I had a nail in it with 10 psi low. I tought I had a bad u joint. Sounded like metal to metal sound. When I filled up the tire with correct pressure, never came back.
