Which is faster? a 1997 Viper GTS or a 2001 Corvete Z06?
I am talking about 2 completely stock cars, I am not asking which is better because a corvette forum is not the place for that, and I know for a fact that the Z06 is an overall better car. I just want to know which one is faster.
Thank you

I hate to say it, but stock for stock, I believe the Viper is quicker in the 1/4 mile, and has a higher top end over any year C5 Z06, coupe, or convertible.
That said, I wouldn't trade my 02 Z06 for any year Viper..... I would however take one gratis as long as I can keep my Vette.
The Viper is quicker and faster. On an average, probably 12.2 at 118 to 12.5 at 114. Top speed of the Viper is around 190, the Z06 is low 170's. THe Viper GTS has always been a very fast car. The year doesn't matter.
My friend just bought his Z06 and it is pushing me to get my Viper, I already own a vette and would never get rid of it, I am the type of guy who likes the car for what it is, not who it's made by.
I found one on Viperalley.com but I can't get verified on the site to contact the guy. If anybody has an account there could you pretty please get his contact information for me or have him email me or call me? I don't expect anybody to do this for me but its worth a try.
Thank you guys so much, and a super special thanks ( ) to agentf1 for getting me in contact with the owner of the car at the ViperAlley.com.
Looks like everything is going great and hopefully I will have this car by next week.
I just wanted to say that both the Viper and Corvette are exeptional cars but I don't think you can beat the Corvette community, I've had so much help from you guys and I promise to help back as much as I can.
How do you define "faster"? 0-60? 1/4 mile? Top speed? Or around a track?
First three should be easy to look up, the last one is open for debate. From my perspective, the Vette is a better overall track car and will come out on top at most, but not all tracks.

On a road course... it really comes down to the driver. I run with and instruct for the Dodge Boys at their Viper Days events. Vettes more than... "Hold Their Own" at both Sebring & VIR.
The Z06 is way easier to drive fast, just learn the line and your rolling.
The Viper has a bunch of torque and no electronic driver aids, soooo its real easy to spin out in the curves. Also Vipers had NO ABS until 2001, as I recall.
i beat vipers all the time becasue they cant drive them not because my car can beat them...seriously was considering a viper before my 02 zo6 but i realized ive always liked the vette. maybe ill get a viper someday but unlikley since the new zo6 came out.

That is a very important point. I think if one is only an average driver they would do better in the Z06 becase of traction control and other little detail that make the Z06 easier to drive.
But a good driver will be able to harness all the raw power a viper makes.
I'd rather have a '68 BB than a viper if all I want is brute power.
