Default Rattle after shut off

When I turn the car off with it in neutral, I hear a loud rattle from under. The previous owner told me to hold down the clutch when I shut down, but it still makes a bit of a noise. This worried me so I took it to the dealer. They are going to replace the torque tube. Is this normal or did the previous owner have a heavy foot. The car only has 9,800 miles. Thanks for your input guys.

btw...here's a coupla pics of my toys

you will probably also notice that when you are stopped at a light and put it in neutral and take your foot off the clutch it will rattle as well. Push the clutch in and it goes away.

It sucks but its normal. I always just keep the clutch pushed in when i shut her down

It's just the throw out bearing, all six speeds make that noise. Perfectly normal.

Normal but then again if you did your research before buying, you would have known this.

So is the torque tube bit b.s? I didn't think it was major becuase the car runs fine. But hey, if I'm getting a torque tube out of it. At least it's still covered.

True enough, Yellow, but why fix it if it isn't broke? Did you find another car to compare your rattle with? Might be worth it to find out your car is going to sound the same after the dealer "fixes" it.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

The rattle is normal! I wouldn't let the dealer touch your car. No telling what they'll screw-up.

Now I'm begining to worry. Although it's supposedly covered under warranty but the guy said the torque tube would get rid of the noise. I take it some of you have had bad experiences with the dealer.

Damn, I thought my car was the only one that did that. It really is kind of embarrassing at traffic lights. Its so loud in the car I feel like people 2 lanes over can hear me rattling w/ their windows rolled up.

One weird thing abou thte rqattle is that if you are at a light in Nueutral and its rattling try just pusing the shifter very slightly forward towards 3rd and it disappears. I dont both doing it regularly because that is probably worse than the rattle. Like everyone said its normal (at least normal as far as GM goes)
