im gonna order the passenger airbag cutoff switch, but before it arrives
i have a birthday ride to give to a little one - if i remove fuse 16 which controls both airbags, i should be safe n sound to put a little chap in the front in a baby seat right?
is there a legal restriction to doing this?
(i understand, or i think is the better term - u may need a new lapsash? for the passenger side??)
(i know dis'ing fuse 16 will , ought to do both airbags, if he isnt gonna be protected by it , i dont mind the diminished protection to the driver side)

How old is the little one? If he/she is in a rear or forward facing car seat, you will need a locking clip to keep the seat belt from loosening. If he/she is in a booster seat, the seat belt will be fine as is. I can not comment on removing the fuse to disengage the air bag, I would assume though that the air bag light should stay on to indicate a problem with the system- maybe even a DIC message???
When I saw the title of this post" tots and vettes" it made me think of this picture of MY Corvette and MY Grandaughter, Morgan. I love this one so I just have to post it.
I used to do it all the time when my daughter was in a child seat, my '98 does not have a passenger airbag cutoff switch, we had a forward facing seat and all you really need to do is cinch the seatbelt.
to cinch the seatbelt pull it all the way out and slowly release it back, you will notice that it is now ratcheting. the owners manual also explains how to do this.
The cut off switch came out midyear in 2000. My 2000 does not have it, I had to add it. The airbag can still destroy a front facing car seat. It is the seat the kills the kids, not the bag, in most cases.
Visit the federal highway safty and insurance safty websites, they show videos of what happens to the seats
RPOZ4Z -dont mess with the fuse? surely cutting power with the fuse is non permanent, as long as i handle the lap-sash problem, i dont want to be foolish - but im yet to differentiate between the logic of cutting power by removing a fuse (effectively unplugging it from the wall) vs a switch
when i go away, im careful to actaully unplug computers from the wall and toasters and so forth, not relying merely on a 'wall switch'
isnt the same principle here applicable?
i dont want to put anyone in harms way or be foolhardy lets make that clear please gents
ps GlennM27 thanks for sharing
