Default LS1/LS6 Edit

Anybody have an experience with it? Is it worth it or should i just buy one of the programmers and do it myself? I have an 03 Z06. This will be my setup very soon Halltech stinger induction system, Throttle body bypass, Borla stingers, x-pipe, high-flow random tech cats, msd wires, beru plugs, 160 degree thermostat, LS6 Edit computer tune.....How much horsepower should i be putting out with that setup???

Unless you know what you're doing... have someone with LOTS of experience do it. $.02 deposited.

You should get a noticeable improvement. Good luck and keep us posted

The edit is best done as part of a dyno tune to adjust you fuel/air ratio to optimize the performance of your car, inlcuding the mods.

There is more to tuning than just adjusting Air/Fuel ratios

LS1 Edit appears to be waning as EFILive and HP Tuners take over the diy-at-home tuner software arena. The great power, usability and cost-effectiveness of the new generation of tuning software afforded the end-user has spawned an explosion in that segment of the market as more and more folks are braving the steep learning curve. The inner workings of the PCM has largely been exploited although the programmers continue to add functionality in terms of editable parameters with each new release. Speed density tuning (MAFless) has become very popular while cut-and-paste MAF recalibration is just around the corner with ver. 2.0 of HPT.

I've been tuning my car with EFILive partnered with a PLX wideband O2 sensor and the difference in drivability and is very noticeable and very positive. A buddy who I hadn't seen since I started tuning said the car sounded much better - more stable and like it was "supposed to sound - when I visited him last weekend.

The process of tuning is essentially endless as you learn more, the software becomes more capable or you modify the car in some way. If you're willing to commit the dollars and time it takes to get up to speed, I would recommend either EFILive or HP Tuners since they are the current and (foreseeably future) front-runners. It takes quite a bit of research/reading and trial-and-error to produce the results you want but, IMO, it's well worth it. Once you've learned the ins-and-outs of tuning the PCM, you'll never be dependent on canned tuning boxes or mail-order tuning or be held hostage by a tuner-locked PCM. You'll always be able to make modifications to your drivetrain, scan the performance and make the necessary adjustments to optimize the programming for the new changes, regardless of the extent of the changes or whether it's on a weekend when most of us do our mods. Plus, it's a lot of fun and you'll learn a tremendous amount about how your car works.

Realize that a dyno tune addresses the WOT mode of driving, which is essential for racing, but doesn't address the part-throttle drivability problems most people consider important such as a steady, odor-free idle and smooth acceleration/deceleration without "cruise-control" and sticking-throttle issues. Part throttle tuning is a longer process requiring several scanning sessions to collect data to analyze the cars behavior and the effects of progamming changes. Generally it take from several days to even weeks of tuning to address the various modes of driving.

Here's my wideband install page to give you an idea what's involved to get going. The wideband O2 setup is essential to gathering accurate and usable Air/Fuel ratio data that reveals how well the engine is operating so plan on installing one to get the most out of the process. Tuning shops use one on your car during a dyno tune.
