Default C5 reliability

hey guys

I'm new to this board but not new to bowties. used to have a 93 camaro, 94 trans am, and 96 impala.

anyways I'm curious how reliable the engine and tranny are in vettes. I'm looking at either a C5 vert or Z06. I never drove my new cars pass 50k miles so that's why I'm asking.

thanks

Following routine maintenance and not beating the living crap out of the engine and tranny - the drivetrain should be good for well into 6 digits.

There are a fair number of members here that have over 100K without any major expenses.

Welcome!

drivetrain is solid. Just interior issues (plastics breaking). Very reliable car though.

Welcome!
I suspect several of our 100k members will chime in. I'm at 58k in my '97 and just came back from a 3,000 mile road trip. These cars are strong.

95,500 miles here on a 98' Coupe.

Never have been stranded.(despite the column lock)

Fuel Sending Unit replaced at 3000 miles under warranty.

Was noticing the 'Wait 10 Seconds Pull Key' which indicates that the
column lock issue is coming your way...had the entire lock assembly
removed.

AC/Heat controls unit. The LED went dark and could not read the unit.
Again...warranty issue at around 52k.

My stock, er old seats did have the side bolster wear on driver side
from the entry/egress.

Began modifying around 60k when warranty expired, and have done
numrous 2500+ mile trips to Virginia and back, including drag strip and
a few road course hotlap days.

I change the fluids within the parameters, I don't beat on the car ALL
the time, but I will give it a thrashing at times...it's all good. It's the
only Chevy I've ever owned. No complaints about reliability from me.

My 2000 has just over 66,000 on it. Not one problem with it's mechanics. Disappointed in the driver's side bolster, though.

Just like any car, if you take care of it, it will last a long time. Many forum members have well over 100K on their car and it is still running strong.

I know it ain't much but I have 48,878 miles on my 2000 model that had 30142 on it when I bought it back in November of 03. I can't drive it as much as I want cause I'm an over the road trucker, but I haven't had any major issues with mine either.

Welcome aboard. Out of all the vehicles I have had the pleasure to own, I find the Corvette to be quite a reliable vehicle. Of course, and, as well stated above, do be consistent with proper maintenance. This is key. Many of our members have C5's rolling with well over 100K miles (o.e.). This amazing characteristic says much for the design, level of technology and, dependability of the car. Enjoy.
