Default KBB: Strange price difference...

I was just looking at some prices on KBB, and came up on something a bit strange. A 2000 Vette Coupe with the same miles/options/etc. as a 1999 Vette Coupe lists for $4,000 more. How can this be? I was going to use KBB as a bargaining tool with people who only know KBB and not NADA, but this puts a big damper in that plan. What gives?

The way you wrote the sentence implies the 2000 is $4k higher than the 99. So what, it's newer...

If you meant it the other way around, please clarify.

There's a $4000 price difference between a 5 year old car and a 6 year old car - I don't think that's normal. And yes, the 2000 is 4k more than the 1999.

All things being equal (options, condition) of course a 2000 would be worth more than a 1999. What's the problem????
Would you pay more for a '99 when you can get an '00 cheaper?

4k does seem like a hell of a gap. What was the difference in going 1 more year up or down?

2000 sounds a lot newer than a 99. They've got to make the gaps somewhere...

Colors like Mil Yellow also make the 2000 year more popular than 99, as do options being used more like HUD (it was available in 99, but wasn't heavily ordered).

Also, many people shy away from 01s b/c of oil consumption, so if they can't afford an 02, the 00 would be a good choice.

Personally, I'd take the 99, but i can understand why the difference must occur in the book.

Yeah, you make a good point. I think I will stick to a 99 FRC search.. although I've never driven a stick before.

KBB is a guide, not a bible. Don't put too much stock in it. Besides, KBB doesn't buy cars.

You'll find that both sources no longer hold much weight. I would go by edmunds 'what others are paying' prices. Its the only realistic source. You'll find its much lower then both others.

Does seem a little high. Try Edmunds.com and see what they show.

I think the problem is the $4k difference, not that an '00 is more than a '99.

I cant believe that difference. Makes me mad (i have a '99)!

Been looking at prices lately as there is a slight chance that I might need to sell my car. I know a car is not an investment but prices seem pretty damn low. I have 19,000 miles on my coupe and its in pristine condition. It sure seems like selling it for that would be like giving it away. Must be a buyers market for sure. Good luck.
