oil change.. How does it know?

oil change.. How does it know?
How the heck does that thing know when your oil is done for? some super cool sensor or is it a hours runnig thing?
The more you put the hammer down the quicker the meter goes down?
some smart person please fill me in?

It takes a lot of things into account. The miles, the oil temps reached, rpm's, the cold starts, trip durations, etc.
It is quite "smart" in how it gauges the life of the oil, although there is no actual sensor physically sensing the oil quality.
Trust it, it does a lot of thinking for you.

Damn, i should have guessed somthing like that due to the lack of a wind up **** on the dash...
