Caught this just in time.I was underneath the car cleaning the leaves out from under the front, I looked over were the computers are and noticed white powdery stuff on the frame Took the battery out, there was a puddle of acid on the tray.In one of the pictures where I'm pointing that metal part is higher then the tray.I guess that explains the hair line crack in the bottom of my battery.I put a thin piece of plastic and thin foam underneath the new battery.Who ever put in a new battery becaused there old one was leaking,I would check underneath your battery.Just some FYI.
You got it that is one of the biggest problems with most of the C5's right now. There have been alot of posts on the Tech side of every Vette side I've been to. I put a Optima Battery in mine, red top and it has been kick ***, I know I have put it to the test!!
I highly recommend a battery mat. It is described as a "super absorbent polypropylene needle punch felt, sealed with a latex binder that traps the acid". I put mats under all my vehicle batteries. I bought mine off the internet. The site address is www.batterymat.com. They list several vendors you can order from. They were not expensive.
The problem wasn't the battery,Its where its sitting. If you look at one of the pictures I'm pointing where it was resting on and it put a hair line crack underneath battery.
