Default Burned Gears!

Comming on to a freeway ramp I punched it in first the car started to wobble left to right (damn I love that part) and instead of hitting 2nd I just went straight to 4th by accident
(maybe I didnt' get that sucker all the way into gear not sure)
punched it and the RPM'S just went up as if I wasn't even in gear. So i let off and got this nassssstyyyy burned smell comming from the rear by the tranny. I thought maybe it was the clutch but It didnt' smell like clutch maybe im wrong though....

Anyhow car drives fine just don't know what the hell i grinded up....

If you went straight into fourth, that would def. not hurt anything. As for the smell, maybe you're right and you just grinded trying to go into fourth? Ouch. If anything, i'd say clutch too.

Definitely sounds like the clutch was slipping. If the gears were shot, you would have a hard time getting it to go into gear and you would hear nasty noises that would turn your stomach and make your wallet start to hurt badly!

Hopefully you didn't do any serious damage. It is possible to have the clutch real hot from normal use and then slip it. This can happen with older clutches especially. It is never a good sign, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you are on your last legs or anything. Just keep an eye on it and see how it does.
