...Did the seafoam thing this weekend after chasing down the product finally at AutoZone after trying 3 other stores. BIG cloud of smoke as expected. Even better was when I got to the main road, I stomped on it and a huge cloud of smoke came out. But DANG, it made a huge difference. Then I changed the oil. The car definately idles smoother, I used to think the slightly rough idle was the nature of the LS1. Low end torque was improved as well. Very happy. Next project is to change the spark plugs and install the new Vararam when it arrives on Wednesday, then hit the track this Friday woo hoo!
If you have higher miles on your car (or any car for that matter), I highly recommend the $5 for the SeaFoam treatment. I was amazed.
Yeah great stuff I have heard, but you run the risk of ruining your plugs and 02 sensors. With that said just make you are considering doing plugs and 02's soon after just to make sure everything is running top notch when done. Also, as said changing the oil when done is probably a good idea to.
One question, where is the best place to let this stuff in the engine? some say brake booster? Where exactly do you do this at?
I usually am not one to fall for the snake oil stuff, but after hearing great reviews on this forum, I decided to try it out for myself. Seems like only Autozone carries it, its in the engine treatment isle.
The vaccuum line I used is the PCV line, which is to the passenger side, right under the throttle body. This way, the vaccuum will sick in the material right after the throttle plate, so it maximizes the exposure.
I cant remember who gave me the idea but if you're doing it solo you an do it like this. Take 3/8" hose, long enough to run into your window, use a straw like you get with the WD40 can and tape it to the 3/8" hose. This will allow the fluid to be sipped into the engine slowly. Then, when you sip down to about 1.5" left in the can, remove the straw and stick the hose right in. It will dissapear and cause the motor to stall. Wait a few hours, turn on car, add some flashing lights and techno strobes and glow sticks and trance music.
Sea Foam is good and acceptable in California, but the real stuff is GM's top engine cleaner. GM has a cleaner and a procedure. Gm's decarbonization process.
You can get the real stuff from Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet a forum vendor, or from Gene at Fred Beans also a forum Vendor....Some states do not allow the sale of the good stuff.

hey now cant excessive carbon buildup in the combustion chamber raise your CR??? i know dumb question but couldent it possibly create more HP? Im sure the other effectsof it in your valve seats and such would negate anything else possible..
i'll date myself saying this but isn't the carbon buildup thing somewhat of a relic from when cars used leaded fuel routinely? i recall way back when taking cars out to "blow the carbon out" & at wot my cousin's 1969 plymouth gtx (440 cid/375 hp) would be all kinds of nasty when the carbon would ostensibly blow out. perhaps the carbon buildup is a real thing and i will admittedly defer to those with strong mechanical backgrounds but it would not be unheard of for any vendor to try to sell products whether the products are really needed or not. p.t. barnum had some profound thinking on this matter. bub
if u baby your car alot, you will get excessive carbon buildup, that;'s why you should do some highway cruising to get rid of carbon build up and give the engine some consistent rpm
The smaller the engine and the easier you take it the worse the carbon build up is. On a larger engine (ls1 that see's some revs) the carbon build up is generally not that bad (I still recommend using seafom in the vette, cleaned mine out pretty good). Try using it on your four cylinder daily driver, I smoked BADLY for about 5 solid minutes of driving .

Are you saying that GM has an approved procedure that has you pouring through the PCV hose?

GM has a product called Top End cleaner. Costs about $6 a bottle, and yes you put it into your motor via a vacuum source...according to the instructions on the can.
I'm so ignorant to this you all gonna think its funny. Ok here goes...
First of all can someone tell me what are we talking about. Sounds like cleaning the carbon inside the engine..etc. Sounds good to me. NOW, if I get this Sea Foam thing, what do I do with it, how to use it. I need exact instructions, cuz I've no idea what we're talking about... FYI: My car is a 99 coupe, A4, about 21,XXX miles.
Thanks for sharing and teaching me another tip....
