I'm in the market for a pair of front tires on my Z06, and heard the recommendation to NOT mix and match tires. In other words, if I have Goodyears on the back, don't put Michelins on the front. Never heard this admonition with other cars, so is this something specific to the Corvette or just an a story?

I have Michelins on all my other vehicles and no complaints whatsoever with them, so I would like to go in that direction on the vette as well. But I really don't want to just discard the rear tires since they still have plenty of mileage left on them. Yet I can't just wait out the wear on them because the front tires need to be replaced pretty soon.

Rich, I have Firestones on the front and Michelin rfts on the back. Works great, no problems. Like u, there is no way I'm throwing out good tires because someone is worried they won't match. Just keep the two fronts or the two rears the same and you can start your transition from there. Good luck.

it's not specific to the vette, it's the ideal situation on all cars. Different tires will handle differently, depending on how stiff the sidewall is and how soft the rubber is. If you stay with similar tires, you'll be fine, but it's not the ideal situation. If you really want to get technical, the age of the rubber also matters, so you should get 4 tires that were built at the same time too.

For my DD, I go in and say give me 2 cheap tires, but it handles like crap anyways so why bother.

I'm about to buy a new set of tires and I'd almost made my mind up to buy a set of Michelin Pilot Sports. As always, a review of whats out there has posed more questions than it answered.

I really want a run flat with some reasonable wet weather performance. I know I live in Vegas but the car goes back to England next year.

The Pilot Sports are way the best spec but are expensive. The Kumho ECSTA MX Run flats are way cheaper and I've heard many positive comments about their performance. A stalking horse is the Falken GR Betas which are really cheap but quite a bit lower spec.

My dilemma is how to justify the extra cash on the Michelins?

I'd appreciate any thoughts.
I did a lot of looking....decided on the Pirilli's Zero Nero All season.at Discount tire online. Rated on Tire Rack..better in some respects to Mich's and Bridgestones.....and toe to toe otherwise. Softer ride and very good in rain is what i was looking for.....you will like the price too....can get same price at a local store if you tell them you got them online....or have them shipped to you and save sales tax....then take to local store to mount......I love the ride on mine.
