Default Clutch Problems

Have 03 Z06 with a few mods. Running 373 rwh on Mustang dyno. Stock clutch beginning to slip. Can get a new clutch under warranty but tuner says to much tork and stock will not hold. What would you guys recommend and do you think a new stock clutch will hold if little care is taken. Presently have 8700 miles and not be run that hard in my opinion.Maybe 10 passes and only 2 or 3 since the mods. Thanks in advance rwmcmi@aol.com

the stock clutch will easly handle that power. If you take it easy then it should last awhile.

Black Wing, Ported trottle body with larger opening, PLugs Wires, Kook Header with Free Flow Cats, LS6 Edit. Run 373 rwh on Mustang Dyno. Really think most of clutch problem come from 12.6 sec 1/4 mile run on dyno. Dyno held tires and Clutch was all that was left. Only other time I know clutch slipped was months ago when I went from 2nd to 5th by mistake, Clutch slipped and smelled little then but no real problem.

The stock clutch should hold to 450 flywheel hp. If you want to take a step up, you can get the LUK Pro Gold clutch which I think is rated to 575 flywheel hp. LUK is the same company that made the stock Z06 clutch. The LUK Pro Gold will feel very close to stock but with a slightly more peddle effort required.

I have the Pro Gold and I am very happy with it. Its very streetable and will give you more room to grow. You can get it with a aluminum flywheel or steel. I went with the steel because of its drivability suits me better. Now that I've gone twin turbo, the clutch is underated for my setup but seems to be holding up just fine.

I wouldn't get the Luk Gold if you plan on running a soft tire. I have a bolt-on Z06 with dr's and I can smell the clutch every time I launch the car (4k). It would probably be fine on a street tire, if that's all your going to use. There are better clutches for the money IMHO.

Well its a no brainer, the stock replacment is free and will easily hold that power. Get it and drive the **** out if it, if brakes after awhile then go for a stouter clutch.
