How important are the foam strips
that are mounted at both ends between the radiator and the shroud?
One came off last year and I glued it back on. Now the other one is coming off.
What purpose do they serve? Are they really necessary? I'm guessing it keeps dirt and debris out of the engine compartment.

Airflow follows the path of least resistance. Without those strips, air will flow around your radiator rather than through it. You want something there to ensure that doesn't happen.
