Okay... I've got a stock 2004 A4 coupe and I'll be up for new tires sometime in the next few months. I'd like to have some fun and do a serious burnout on my rear tires the day before I get my new set of tires.
Any pointers on how to safely do it? Also, can I safely do it without taking the chance of damaging the transmission? I have seen some posts of someone doing a burnout with an auto and then ending up with a transmission fluid leak post burnout...
Hold the brake down and mash the throttle, that how I do it.
Thats how I used to do it with my old Rustang. I heard that doing this could seriously warp the breaks. Do it at your own risk.....but yeah, that is how you do a burn out with an auto.
I've also done it in 3rd gear (allows a little more play than 1st obviously) by just stomping it and then tapping the brake with my left foot just aggressively enough to stop any forward movement I might have had from the start. Has worked just fine for me. So much easier to do when it's time to change tires of course! Hey, make sure you take pictures/video of the event for all of us to enjoy!!
this is everyone's dream on the day or two before you get new tires. i just want some photos on the day i do it. how about if you post some photos? bub
the best way to do it is turn off active handling/traction control, put the car in second gear and hold on. just make sure you do it in an open parking lot.
I'll be doing mine tomorrow or the next day as well. I have an appointment Monday morning to get the new shoes on. I just hope I leave enough tread to drive it there Monday morning!!!

I have a friend who does this everytime he's due for new tires. He does it a little different though. He coats the rear tires with Dawn dish wahing soap and lights em up. It seams to be a little easier on the tranny and gears. If anyone is on his **** list he backs into heir garage while they're inside and does it

It's going to be a few months... I've only got 18,500 on them right now. Using the penny test... it looks like I've got about 5K or so left. But, I will definitely keep you guys updated. Thanks for all of the feedback.
