I'm glad someone brought this up. I have been grinding gears trying to come up with a classy solution. If it's useful, the spacing of the fasteners on the flexible center airdam matches the horizontal spacing of the two pairs of holes on the license plate perfectly.
That's said, if you fastened the plate there by the top pair, there is about 1.5 inches of the plate that will hang over the lower edge of the airdam. On a lowered car like mine, this will cause the plate bottom end to scrape almost all the time. It's kinda cool because it will "wear to fit" Just like the mud guards
I also wonder if it will help with getting more airflow onto the radiator. Maybe there is an increase, but is likely negligible. One concern though, the plate is still mounted "straight and is in plain view" (somewhat in plain view). The thing is, will a cranky cop pull you over due to that ? If a cop will, will he give you a ticket for "obstruction of license plate" or "missing front license plate" or just let you off with a warning ? Wonder if it will make the laser harder to lock on.
Sounds like it will be an easy fit. I'll try mounting it this weekend and see. I checked the regulations where I live and all it states is a car is to have 2 plates. Doesn't specify where etc. I think if you have it on there you'd be ok. If it's easily visible all the better.
How does the corvette plate thing come off? I'll just use the screws from in there.
I have custom Silverado truck and I trimmed the whole license down to make it smaller, Just cut an inch or so off the top and bottom with a pair of tin snips and it should fit on the air damm, I got some small U shapped black rubber at the glass shop and glued it around the plate to give a border and a finished look, all they want to see is the numbers
I also saw something similar done to the plates of a GT40 kit car, what other choise do you have if your getting hassled.
I personally think the OEM spot is perfect for the C5. It doesn't restrict air flow and blends with the car's body. Thank goodness I don't drive a C6 and have to deal with their solution.
Same here. Never put a front plate on any of my corvetts.
Did not use a front plate on my previous 98 and now on my ZO6. I keep the plate behind the pass. seat with the story of the bracket being on order. So far so good, does'nt hurt to have a shield in your wallet either.
I've seen others with the plate mounted to the air dam and from straight ahead it is visible. Personally, on my car I just leave it off and I've never been hassled about it, even when stopped for another infraction, which I beat.
anyone with a front plate want to sell me their front plate filler? I have an '02 QS Z...previous owner mounted foglights in there and I want to pull them and put the stock plate filler back in
If your state law reads that it must be mounted in the most forward body panel then remounting it under the bumper on the air dam will not "beat" a ticket if push comes to shove. Do some research before doing all this. I just chose not to run one and will deal with the man if he so decides to pull me for it. I have followed a few LEO's on the roads and have thus far never been cited for it. Doesn't mean it wont happen one day though. I can live with that.
My local law just reads a car requires 2 plates and the numbers must be visible. Doesn't specify anything more. If I mount it on the air damn I should be ok.
Quetion about mounting to the air damn. I see the 2 bolts mentioned in an above post? How do you remove the bolys to put the plate on?

I have no idea myself. I wanted someone to find out about the legality before I put on the effort. Does it look like it's riveted in there or is it a bolt and nut setup ?
Looks like it might be a rivet. Hard to see behind it but thats my guess without really getting under there. Guess I'll have too check it out in more detail.
i mounted my plate right where its supposed to go-
then i notched the cover where the two lower screws go..
then you just snap the cover back on-and i can easily remove the cover if i need too ,"get stopped by local police-say i was at a car show remove the cover and its worked so far
been doin' it for two yrs now
if your locals are makin a big issue run around with the cover off and mount it for shows http://www.z06vette.com/gallery/data...ls9wc-med.jpeg
I ran without one here in MO for about 8 months before I decided my luck was going to run out. Plus I dont want to give a cop an additional reason to come after me if he saw me speeding (within reason).
So....I ordered a transparent plate cover from PFYC and think it turned out well. Keeps the lines of the car unaltered, while complying with the law. I did the same thing with my 99 WS6 Formula where it was crucial to not interrupt the airflow going into my ram air nostrils.
