I am looking forward to lowering the z monday and love the way a wheel fits perfectly in the fender.
My question is before i start lowering. On stock bolts, i am looking to achieve after lowering the same distance from the top of the fender to the tire as from the side of the fender to the tire. for that perfect fit look.
With stock wheels and tires can I achieve this with the stock bolts?
Thanks

im assuming you have a Z06......the stock bolts are fine but you will probably have to cut the bushings on the front bolts to achieve this perfect height.....did it on my Z and it looks great

how exactly do you cut the bushings? theres a million threads on lowering but i couldnt find any that show how or where to cut the front bushings.
If you go the the first page of this site click on tools and then click on Tech Tip, it will give you a long list of mods, go down to the first one regarding " lowering your front end " it will show step by step pics of just what you want to do including cutting the bushings
thanks for the tip, and maybe i worded it in a confusing manner but i was just wanting to know if andyone got the look i was wanting with out cutting. I was trying to have a general idea so i wouldnt have to do it twice..
I've recently posted some questions regarding this exact same thing. With the bolts adjusted to the max the front wheel well opening still looks too high compared to the rear well, even though the bottom of the car is sitting correctly and the car is equally lower front and rear. I guess to get the front to look perfect some cutting is in order. I'm planning to do it tomorrow if time permits, then I can get aligned this week. On stock bolts the rear fits perfectly, though I already bought the longer bolts and might put them in.
gm actually advises you to lower your z06, they have a video of "how to"for performance...not looks, if your after performance, using stock bolts will usually net about 1"-1.875" this is again for TRACK performance the front will always be slightly higher for dampenig and hard cornering...for looks be careful not to slam it, as this will have an adverse affect on your stock shocks
I'm wondering if the Z06's sit a little higher from the factory. I just put Z06 shocks on my 04 coupe and the ride height is a little higher (even after a 300 mile run over the weekend) than it was before. I know my 04 was lower(stock) than my 97 and a friends 02 before the shock change.
If that is right then you might have to cut the bushings to get to the point you want.
Z0 BROKE, sorry no pics but the look you want is perfect. The space all around the tire is equal on both the front and rear tires. As previously mentioned I lowered to the maximum on stock bolts and then cut the front bushings down 2/3rds. When I was done I knew I had accomplished what I wanted perfectly. I wouldn't go any lower considering where I drive but it's not a problem the way it is now. I had to be careful with driveways anyway when it was stock. I also had it aligned today and it is amazing how responsive it feels. The best part is that the ride doesn't suffer and it rides as good as it ever did, which I think is pretty nice. I drove over to where my friend works who also has a Z06. He has 18" and 19" wheels on stock height adjustments. Comparing his car to mine he said he must have the "off-road" suspension.

Here is my Z06 Before and After Lowering on the stock Bolts ONLY. Its low enough for me. If you see my video on my web page, my car sinks down a bit while driving so the gap is almost gone anyways !
It still amazes me that Chevy sent a Z06 out the door this jacked up !
That **** looks good! any tips on what bolts to get for the rear? are the longer ones maxed out on yours?
Also my Z is not as high as Toque's ride, that thing looks like a old 4x4 dodge truck!
much better now though!!!
monday is the day , I will charge at it with a hacksaw and longer rear bolts in hand!! wish me luck!
Thanks man. My rear bolts are 7" in length. If you don't buy a "kit" you can take off a stock bolt assembly and drive your wife's car to the hardware store. Get a Grade 8 bolt that is the same diameter as stock but 7" long, and replicate all the washers, etc. Reuse the stock bushings. Be sure and get a nylock nut. The rears are cake, it's the front that's a bish. You will need a buddy to help with that. If you can get an airsaw or sawzall then cutting the fronts will be much easier.
Are you guys lowering BOTH the front and rear, or just the front. Do I have to buy anything to do it, or you just adjust the bolts? its that easy?
I just bought my first vette (01 Z06) and I am clueless about how to lower but I'd like to do it.
Front and rear. Whether or not you buy anything is up to you, depending on how low you want to go. My Z stock was 4X4 height and dropped maybe 5/8 an inch all the way down on stock bolts, no where near where I wanted to be. So I had to use longer rear bolts and cut the front bushings. Cost is ~$10 or so for parts, a little time consuming (not bad) and then an alignement. I paid the stealership $90 to align mine. So, all in all for $100 I dropped it, still much cheaper than any other car I've lowered.
