I’ve seen them advertised as adding storage space. One car up with another parked under. What am I missing, how do you open your garage door with a car up there?
I had 10' ceiling and it was plenty. My garage door tracks were not raised beyond normal height so I could only store 2 vettes with the one on top either backed in or with the vert top down.
YOu first start with atleast 10' ceilings. You then move the door tracks to a tight ceiling mount.
Actually, my garage height is 8.5 feet... I've measured it, and I could BACK my SWC on a lift and still have plenty of room to park my C5 underneath WITHOUT relocating my garage door... Um look honey - I got a GREAT deal from Autolifters - only cost me $300!! (plus another zero under my breath)...
i just installed the ultimate lift from complete hyrdrulics great lift at a great price and the cust service was top notch 8000lb lift for $1800+ shipping

I have a 10’ ceiling in my garage and there is 2’ above the door tracks available if I need to relocate them.
So, the Vette being about 48” high, leaving 12” for rack and door clearance, would leave me about 3’. That’s enough for bicycles, lawn mowers etc. but not for another car unless I relocate the doors.
I talked to a guy in my office that just sold a garage door business after doing it for about 30 years. He told me that to do it right, it should cost about $1000 to have someone relocate the door tracks because it would require different springs and other parts. Considering that’s about half the price of the lift itself, I may not change the door if I go for the lift.

I cut my ceiling out and raised it two feet. Have a nice trayed ceiling now and it worked out great!

This is how I modifyed my rafters to get the max clearance for my lift I also had to remove the door opener and cut out the old section of 2X6 my door rails were also moved up to clear the car when it is all the way up so I can pull a car under neath!
As you can see it is a tight fit but it fits with 4 inches clearance on the top!
