Or any after market install, even with the stock shifter, has any one used any sound deading material? Even with the stock unit there is sound from that area!
I ask about this as my car is apart, and just put in a Hurst. Boy talk about a short throw now!! LOL! I took it for a short spin just to check it out, and with it all still open, no console, just the shifter in and boot on. You can quite the sound just by covering the opening with your hand.
So with all that area in there, with nothing there at all!! I would think that the sound could be brought down a whole lot with sound deading material!
Anyone done it, if so with what? And if not, what would you use, and how much of it? Just seems to me that the complaints that all have about the noise from this area, stock, or after market, could be cut down to almost nothing with all the open space. (and I have never seen a write up on an after market install, that even mentions this?)
There's a rubber stop you can put over the shifer, or some people use a tennis ball on the shaft. A lot of the F-body guys like to shove mouse pads around the opening.

A tennis ball over the shaft! You are a genius! I have been brainstorming for days how to quiet my hurst. Thanks.

I did that when I installed my Hurst. Just cut the ball in half and made a X cut at the top. I don't know how much it helps since I never drove around with the Hurst installed without the tennis ball mod.
