Default MORE STUPID QUESTIONS, Z06 HELP (info)

Hey guys, I,m looking at purchasing a 2002 Z06 tomorrow. What is normal oil pressure, water temp, etc, while motor is warm and cruising. Anything funny or special I should look for? Motor noises, can you hear the lifters, etc? Any help is appreciated. Thanks John

I can't quote my oil and water temp values. Sorry. But, I'd make sure the tranny shifts smoothly both when shifted quickly and when shifted slowly. I'd make test shifts into all the gears. I would listen for any noises that sound unusual. In this regard, Z06's are known to make a few noises when shutting down. I would try to find out how many times the tires have been replaced. Unless it has many miles, I would not expect an 02's tires to have been replaced more than once. It would be good if they never have been replaced. I would ask to see the invoices covering its repair/service history. I'd get a carfax on it. I'd check for leaks--as in what's on the ground where the car parks. I'd make sure it goes straight when hands are not on the wheel. I'd look to see how damaged the wheels are to get a feel for how careful the owner has been with the car. I'd look at each side in direct sunlight to get a feel for how well the paint has been maintained and how careful the owner has been as evidenced by scratches and dings. Etc., etc. I would want it to be mod free unless I felt really good about how the owner takes care of the car. I would not buy it if it has had more than one owner. Good luck.

You are very welcome. I got my manual: Oil pressure--20-80 PSI (given the picture, mine generally is between 30 and 40 in Phoenix AZ) and Engine coolant temp.--should not be in the shaded area--mine tends to be under 220 F. Post back on this thread and let us know if you buy and give us details about the car--or start a new thread.

I would not agree with this comment. I am the 2nd owner of my 2002 Z06 and if I decided to sell it tommorrow, the buyer would be very lucky to get a car in such good condition. For cars like this, people sell for all sorts of reasons.

I mght be OK with a multi-owner car if I talked to all the owners and got good vibes from all. It's just my general bias, and I over generalized.. There still are plenty of good 1st owner cars out there. If there weren't, then I'd have to modify my stance if buying an 01-04. And, you are right; a car with any number of owners can be a great one. I'm glad you got an excellent one. I wonder if he bought the car.

I would look at the rear end (driver's side) for the rear diff. leak and if it has or has not been fixed...plus all the other usual used car items.

I'm actually the 3rd owner of my Z06. The car only had 4500 miles when I bought it and it still smelled new.

Had it for 1.5 years now and no issues. It was still under factory warranty when I bought it and now I have GMPP extended warranty so I'm not too worried.

i didnt read the comments so i dont know if it's been posted or not, but when you shut the car off, if you hear a bunch of clanking or something shaking dont be alarmed, it's the clutch, they all do it.
