Default opinions please!

im in the coast guard stationed in alaska, im coming home to california in a couple of weeks, my family and i are huge corvette fans, anyway i had a c4 waiting for me at home but my family upgraded it for me to a black on black 99 coupe, ive seen the pics and its gorgeous but i havnt driven it yet, my question is what are the differences im really going to notice, i know its so much smoother but does that take away from the sporty feel of the car?, and its too quite, i want her to rumble any advise?

With a family like yours what can't you like. I went from a '94 to a 2001 and the C5 is so much more of an everyday car that you can also take to the track. The wife and I (and our two weiner dogs) love to go on long trips in it (going up the CA coast to Mendocino this weekend). Great mileage (my 4-year average over 26 mpg) including at least 10 autocrosses (usual mileage dips down to high teens). Much more comfortable after you get rid of the OEM runflats - you'll as many replacement choices and you'll have opinions on this forum. I went with the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 non-runflat. Have fun with the C5 and welcome to the forum.

First off, here's to you... ....for serving in the Coast Guard!!

Second, congratulations on the "new" Black on Black '99 coupe. Great choice by the way!!

I owned an awesome '96 LT4 Collector Edition coupe before my '99 coupe. What I found was the C5 is a much more refined ride. Very comfortable for long trips. MUCH easier getting in and out. Performance wise is wasn't a major improvement over my LT4. However, my LT4 was a little modified, so it ran pretty strong. If you had the stock LT1 or earlier C4 engine, I think you will definitely notice a real seat-of-the-pants improvement in performance!!

I hope this helps a little! I am sure you will really enjoy the '99. Please post us some pictures when you get a chance!!

Good luck!!

I agree with all that's been said so far AND you get a trunk! I traded a 95 conv for a 2004 vert and was amazed at all the room... Now my wife and I can take a trip (as long as it's only a 1 day - since she packs for every conceivable weather condition)...

Thanks for you service to our country

PS - Any truth to the rumor that you have to be 6 feet tall to be in the coast guard? That way, in case the ship sinks, you can wade ashore!
