Lots of info if you search the forum. Seems like the c6 shifter has a shorter throw, that will be my best choice.

C6 Shifter install! Buy the kit from Fichtner Chevrolet here on the board for 222 + shipping. Call Bob!

I am installing mine this weekend. READ all of the above posts! Bottom line. Worst part is getting the console and dash piece around radio off! The units swap out perfectly. Vibration damper does fit without any MOD. Boot fits with only slight and reversable MOD. But please read!

My Best,

Try cutting the end of the stock shifter 1/2-3/4" first. Just take the **** off, thread a nut onto the shaft, and hacksaw away (figure out what **** you intend to use again to determine just how much you are going to cut off- and if you want to reuse the stock shifter **** you may have to shorten the "demon key"). If you don't like how it feels after you're finished, then you can go ahead and replace the shifter completely. If on the other hand you like your "home made" version, you've saved yourself a few bucks. Good luck with your decision.
