Default Build Sheet and born date

I just got my build sheet from Bowling Green . There is lots of codes that I have no idea what they mean and doubt that makes any difference.

However… the date of production on the build sheet is 3/7/03 but back in 2003 someone was able to give me not only the build date but what number off the line that day (see sig). There is over a week between the date on the build sheet and the date that was given to me. Could it have taken that long from the time the build sheet shows to the day it rolled off the line?

Now to make it even more confusing, written with a yellow grease pencil on the drivers side fender under the hood is:

-25
3-27-3
281
Could this be the day they put fluids in?

So now I have three dates, 3/7 on the build sheet. The date I was given by a forum member of 3/18 and the date written on the fender of 3/27.

So, what do you think the build date really is? BTW the vin is 125782.

The build sheet date will not be the born on date. That is the date the order is released to the factory. It will run any where from 1 to 2 weeks after that date for the build depending upon any quotas, overtime, quality stops or holds that may be going on at the plant.

I would say that the 18th is your accurate born on date. The 3/27 may be the ship date.

I'd have to agree with the 18th. Have a dealer run it through their computer and see what it says, just to confirm.

The 18th sounds right. The born date should be the day the frame actually starts down the line. Depending on the time of day production of your car started, fluids (gas, oils, coolant, brake fluid, PS fluid) may go in on the second day.

The plant tour guides usually describe the first engine start in the car as "giving birth". This happens about 100 feet before the car actually moves under its own power.

Depending on workload and the availability of transport trucks, the car could very well have sat in the plant lot for a week or longer.

Why, is your birthday the day your sperm started swimming? The born on date is the day the cars leaves the line, IMHO

Get your dealer to run your Vin number and it will process a report that gives the born on date. It also shows the times that certain parts were scanned into the build. Neat stuff for your scrap book.
