Default hole in floor

I have a 01 z06 and somehow got a hole the size of a golfball in bottom wooden floor pan. I was wondering how to fix this? I was thinking joint compoud or drywall mud. thanx

You want to make sure that you absolutely keep water out of the balsa. If it has gotten wet you need to get it dried out thoroughly before you repair it. Then you need to make sure that you have a watertight repair with glass and resin, and then coat it with a sealer to make sure it won't leak.

If the wood has water in it when it is resealed, when it gets hot it can expand and cause delamination that would be a mess...

Dry it out and properly repair it, this is no place for cheap putty or half-azzed repairs.

I could not link the page so I copied the info below. It is from www.mcmaster.com . I like using the epoxy based resin instead of the poly resin. Th eepoxy resin sticks better. If you use the poly resin be sure to rough up the surface with sandpaper to give something to stick to. I would lay a couple strips of glass on the bottom. Fill the hole with resin, then lay a few layers on the top. If you want the bottom to look good when done oyu will have to sand and paint it. Any body shop should be able to fix this for you.

Given the structural integrity required from that part (supports the seat and is part of the safety restraint system) I would replace it if the Balsa wood inside got wet. There is no way to know how badly damaged it is. Water and wood do not go well together.
