A general thread about misbehaving around your buddies
ill tell you a little story from a few years ago that might make sense of this mentality.
a friend of mine used to come by my work on weekends (sat afternoons) to chat and hang out for a while until i got off work. usually the plan was to drive back to my house, which was about 20 minutes away to get ready and go out to hit the strip that night. we took one car for the going out part but the drive back to my house from work was always in seperate cars.
he had an tt RX7 r1 and i had my vette. when we drove alone, we both were very responsible drivers. but when we drove in a pack, we always ended up doing some crazy things.
the fastest i ever drove a car was when i drove in tandem with him. i hit 160 mph once trying to stay ahead of him and another time nearly matched that when we ran into a pack of crotch rockets.
finally one saturday when bill was back at my work ready to do the weekend thing, i mentioned to him that maybe we should cool our heels a little on the drive to my house. he agreed but we abided by that agreement for all of 2 miles before we were racing at triple digit speeds down the freeway. basically, if he was in his car and i was in mine, it was ON. so i realized that being around your buddies in hi performance cars created an irresistable environment for doing mischief.
look at the crazy things they did on gumball. you think they would do those things while alone.
That urge to play is awfully strong, but I always just stay back and let my peer take off if he wants to. I guess I'm just a big chciken, but I'm always worried that two cars running like that is just too big a target for the police and, of course, is just plain dangerous. Plus, with every other driver packing a cell phone these days, you're really asking to get called in.
it depends. if im in the company of decent drivers ill push myself to my limits not thiers. its fun to drive the cars like they were built for at times and its all the more fun to do it in the company of friends. if a group of import racers comes up i just cruise slow hoping for the pass some try and egg me on but i have pretty good self control.
i know the feeling, and my best buddy drives a keep, one time i let him drive the Vette and ! drove the jeep, let me tell you, a jaap cant break like a Vette, good thing he blew that stop sigh. Yeah its hard to control sometimes, but when its wirh other morons on the street, i dont usually push it. street raceing is bad.
I am the bad boy in my club usually when we go somewhere we are 8 cars deep and I am always in the lead, if not I'll do whatever speed I have to to take that lead. Course I failed to mention that I am the youngest of the group at 40 years of age.
