Default Can anyone identify this?

I found this laying on top of the Rack and Pinion Steering. It's a soft material, kind of like putty. Looks like it is a seal from something, maybe something rectangular. But I can't find where it came from. Anyone know?
I found it shortly after having the dealer that does my warranty work do a routine fluid flush of the Engine coolant, power steering, transmission and brake fluid. It may have been there before I got the car, and just never noticed it. It's kind of sticky, so it would have stayed in place for a while.

Well with a 148 viewers and no reply, I guess nobody knows WTF this is then! Maybe someone threw it under the hood for a joke. I was mainly just curious where it came from so I would know what had been worked on before.

Did you pick it up from the road while driving? I'd like to know also.

Never seen this - is it possible that it was 'kicked up' road debris?

Is anything odd about the cars handeling, etc?

The only suggestion I can provide is to take the part to a delaer and see if they can identify it.

Keep up apprised.

My guess is that it's granite and Brawny paper-towel. That blue thing looks kinda like a ruler or something!

I also found a small rubber piece on top of the rack one day. Took it to the dealer then over to the collision centre. The one guy who knows the C5 inside out since he puts the bent ones back together, said he had never seen that piece before. His comment: "You probably sucked it up off the road. I always find interesting things stuck in the radiator and on top of the oil cooler and steering rack."

Hope that helps.

Since you noticed this right after the dealer's done his deed, I'd take it back and ask him! Will certainly be better information than what I've seen others have posted, so far!

Did you track your car at all? It looks like the pieces of tire that get accumulated by picking up r-compound. It sort of goo's up on the tires, then flys off in strips.
