I would say take her out on a wet road, turn the wheel slighty, hit the gas and let the butt start to come around. Fish tailing is another good way if you have the proper mods
Let 'er rip and then after it's loose and you let off the gas, the computer will wake up and decide it should do something. Once it decides what to do, it will screw up your driving something nasty. I think the reason most folks rarely experience it working is because it is so damn slow it is practically worthless. Maybe if you can't sense slipping tires it may be of some value, but I react to spinning way before my computer does.
I was driving through Tenn. a few weeks ago and ran into a heavy rain storm. I had the cruise control engaged and just as I entered a curve to the right the road also began a steep uphill. I felt the back end break loose to the left and at the same moment the DIC lite up and said "Active Handling Engaged". The rear end instantly settled back down and everything was under control. Needless to say I disengaged the cruise control and started paying more attention to the driving conditions. THAT'S how you'll know.
I'm pretty sure it was put on all Vettes since 98 or 99. I'll bet you have it on your Y2K.
I hope I have it also...but how do I turn it on to activate it. I heard that you hold the traction button down for 10 seconds, but nothing happened. Is this the right way? Thanks.

Check your RPO codes and look for RPO JL4. The sticker would be either on the inside of the glove box door or under the passenger side rear compartment cover, depending on your model year.

It defaults on when you start the car, just like traction control. If you hold the button down for ten seconds, it places the car in COMPETITIVE MODE, which is T/C off, A/H on. BTW, all of this is in the owner's manual.

I just looked and I don't have the RPO JL4...but I do have the RPO Z51...does that mean I have Z51 suspension on the car?

If you have it, you will have a rubber button with the active handling symbol on you center console. As for being activated, it automatically activates each time you turn on the car.
You can push the botton normally to turn off the active handling, or hold it down for 5 or 10 seconds (forget how long) to go into "competition mode" which will keep activie handling on, but allows for some wheel slip for drag racing, etc.

Jump in anyone if I missed anything...
No, I think you understand and you didn't miss anything.
If saniterium92128 doesn't have JL4 on the RPO sticker, then he does not have active handling. The Traction Control button on the bezel just in front of the console looks exactly the same, except the button will be labled Traction instead of Active Handling. Here's what I'm talking about.....
Just because you have the button, doesn't mean you have A/H. And the fact that the RPO codes don't list JL4 supports what I'm telling you. Generation 2 A/H became standard in 2002.
