Default Compare Wind Buffeting: Coupe Vs. Vert.

Today I test drove an 05 Vert. (WESELOH in CARLSBAD , CA) and really liked it. I took it for a quick spin down the freeway to get an idea of how beat up you get from the wind. Not too bad, but more than my previous ride (Audi A4 Cabrio).

Has anyone compared the Coupe (top off) Vs. the Vert?

TIA- Ron

Hi ronmendel, I answered a posting about this a week or so ago. Unless they've made a lot of design changes between the C-4 and C-5 coupe , the vert has LESS buffeting that the coupe. My 90 ZR-1 had lots of buffeting, but my C-5 vert is a lot smoother. I have not driven a C-5 coupe, so you need to find this out for your self. The angle of the windshield allows a smoother airflow over you and does't catch the coupe targa.

The buffeting in a coupe is pretty bad at highway speeds. I took my car out with my son the other day and we practically had to yell at each other in the car (70-80mph). However, at speeds of 55 mph or less, its pretty nice.

I like open top cruising, but I just preferred the lines of the coupe better than the vert, so I put up with the buffeting. I did see a pretty nifty air deflector for the coupe that is supposed to cut the buffeting down dramatically...

Can't speak to the C5 coupe, but my 04 vert is MUCH more pleasant to drive at speed with the top down than my c4 coupe was with the top off.

Do drive the c5 coupe before making up your mind.

C5 vert in my opinion is better at highway speeds ,of course wind direction has lot's to do with any top down or off driving. Since I purchased the
"NEW VETTE NET " I like it even better, The looks are good since it only come's up to the top of the seat and it is not really seen in your rear view mirror, I can tell you that at 125 with the windows down it was good

The coupe should have more buffeting due to the fact the wind does not just flow out the back - it rumbles around in the hatch area.

With the Ventmaster clips the vert and the coupe are almost the same according to a buddy of mine who has an 03 vert and we took my coupe to Portland 2000mile round trip with the roof off almost the entire time

To Silveroakvette: That is one beautiful Mag Red C5 Corvette convertible you have there. Great pic. Sharp car: wind buffeting noises, or, not!

Has anyone tried the Windjammer on a C5? Looks like it could work, but I don't want to waste $200 if it does nothing.

Default Wind is worse in my coupe than 'our' vert.

My husband and I have 3 vettes. A 2000 coupe (my daily driver), and 01 convertible (our weekend toy), and a 66 coupe (my husband's dream car). We had the vert fist, so I was amazed at how much wind got inside the 2000 coupe with the targa top off. The rounded shape of the rear hatch glass turns it into a cyclone inside. I had a box of puffs in the back and the wind sucked about half the box out the top of the car before I could get pulled over. I haven't had the top out since. I did buy these clips that let you drive with the hatch slightly open to let the air flow through. But I haven't tried them yet. There isn't much point when it's easier to just drive the vert when the weather is nice.

I found the same thing in ours, you pretty much have to yell at highway speeds with the coupe/hatchback. Also the radio, forget it. I haven't driven the Vert.
