Default C5 Values.......... Once Again

Just watched a Blk/Blk 99' Coupe with 30K on the clock, sell on Ebay for just over 20K. By all indications this car was in good condition. It saddens me when I see a C5 selling so low. I never bought my car as an investment & it's not for sale, but I'm still shocked that it's worth 5k less than I paid for it just 2 years ago.

This kind of trend works out well for me, a perspective 99-01 C5 buyer. Anytime a new body style comes out the old style prices are going to drop. Probably not as much as the C4 did when the C5 came out, but still a drop. The C5 has also been the most popular and best selling vette ever. More C5s out there means there will inevitably be more of them for sale. It's an accumulation of market variables that works out well for me!

For an American car that's not too bad for an almost 7 year old car.

The Kelly Blue Book shows a "private party sale" selling price for a 1999 Coupe in good condition as $20,600. So that price you're talking about is in the ball park.

I hate the depreciation on my baby as much as the next guy, but three things...

1) according the edmunds.com (great car info site) the Corvette has one of the top 10 value retentions for over the first 4 years (so, a car bringing in 50% of it's sticker price 6 to 7 years later is darn good)

2) 5K in depreciation over two years on a car like ours is not that bad (2,500 a year)

3) also the 20Kish auction price is in line with the Kelly Blue Book value

Just my .02 worth.

I just paid 28k for a 2000 triple black convertible with every option with only 10k miles. I got mine on ebay also.

C5's will drop. Depreciation is a fact of life in the early years. You accept it or plan to keep the car until depreciation levels off.

Its been said ebay has become a wholesale market, and the fact that the vette is now bringing "winter money."

Vettes actually hold their value better than most any other mass prodouced American car.

that same car would go for 15-17k at any auction nowadays. american cars just don't hold their value. the '02 z06 i purchased a few weeks ago cost me 1/2 as much as it did new (the guy had the window sticker still).

the acura rsx-s that i purchased for 22.5 in 2002 was sold for 18.1k w/42k on the clock. now that's holding it's value.

I don’t think losing 5K in two years is bad….considering the model change to the C6 is now in it’s 2nd year. Use it and ENJOY!!

That's better than a new Lincoln that loses almost half it's value in the first year. Depreciation is a fact of life. Super low mileage and extra clean C5's will always bring top $$$.

Corvettes bring the best resale of most any domestic vehicle. With that said I would NEVER sell my pampered 39xx mile car for KBB numbers. If you want to sell there is always someone out there who appreciates a car that has been well maintained & will pay for it.

I bought my 2001 brand new with GM Supplier discount) as an reward to myself , definitely not an investment. I enjoy it and keep it as nice as possible, as it will be my "original owner" toy 'til death do us part .

Don't let the depreciation get you down. Consider the depreciation as a small price for the privilage to drive a Corvette.

Enjoy the ride!

I sold my Mint , low mileage 2001 Z51 Convertable for 31,100 in August......my opinion the C6 & significant discounts given on new C5 have brought down the value on C5..........its the cycle of the Corvette market...........

Unfortunately, that price sounds about right. Just like any other car, it depreciates, but the Vette does have a good reputation for retaining a good portion of its value for a long period of time.
