I just purchased a '02 Z06, and I am having a problem with it not going into 2nd gear all the way when I do a 1st to 2nd shift. It feels like it goes in gear, but when you let the clutch out, it zings the gears a bit and you have to pull the shifter back again depressing the clutch again. I sure could use some input. The car has only 13k miles on it.

My questions would be:
Does it have an aftermarket shifter in it? If so the stops might need adjusting.
What kind of shape are the shift forks in?
These can be damaged if the car is shifted to hard. 2nd gear would be suspect if this is the case from slamming the 1st to 2nd shift.
Those are the cheaper fixes I can think of. The more expensive ones include possible internal gear damage or the synchros could be damaged.
You can check the stops yourself it the shifter isn't stock, but for the other issues you will probably need to ask around about a good tranny shop in your area...unless you are Ace mechanic
Sorry about the trouble you're having. Good luck!

Sounds like an adjustment issue somewhere. My 99 coupe did this in first gear, never in 2nd. From the posts I read it was pretty typical in first gear. Does it do it even when you jam it in 2nd? You may want to pull the boot off and check out the travel into 2nd.
I have a 01 and mine did the same thing took it back to dealer the synchros in 2nd and fouth where gone they put a new trans in under warranty I have the GMPP lucky the dealer i work with has a good vette person to do the job. they also siad the shift fork which is made of alum was also bad.
