Shift icon in HUD

Yesterday the light hit my HUD so that I could clearly see all of the icons at the same time. There is one that says shift in the upper right hand corner. If it's supposed to do something, mine doesn't.

I did a search but came up blank. Anyone?

Yes it lights up when you get up to the rev limiter on the M6. I've heard it comes on right as the A4 shifts when you are getting on it as well, however I don't if this is true or not... Pretty

6500? For the Z06 maybe

Redline is 6k for us. Mine ususally lights up at 5800 or so.

It’s programmed to light up at the optimum performance shift point for a stock C5 which is 5700 or 5800 rpm.

I have seen it a few times

. You will also see it as soon as you start the car, the entire HUD lights up for a second.

I see mine almost every day. I like it cauze it comes on at 5700rpm. That gives my old brain just enough time to think "okay, now shift". By the time my left foot and right arm get the message it is at just about 6K. Just right!
