Default Quick Lowering Question

today i cut 2/3's off of the front bushings and i didnt have time to do the rear, so tomorrow morning i get to lower the rear.

two quick questions:

1. with 2/3's of the front bushings gone, i can still achieve the best look (with 1/4-1/2 inch rake) on stock rear bolts? or do i have to change the bolts?

2. for those that cut that much from the front, how much did you lower the rear, approx, to achieve that look?

THANKS

I think you're looking for something similar to what this guy did, so
check this out. I believe he cut the front and rear bushings but left the
stock bolts intact. Good luck!

I have all stock bolts, 2/3's cut with 5 threads showing on the rear and still have approx. 1/2" rake.

i havent even had a chance to look at the rear yet, seeing as i would have to cut the stock bushings though, would it be easier to just use longer bolts? i already have them, i just wanna spend the least time at the hobby shop that i have to today.

also, how/where do you measure to find the rake?

I cut 2/3s off the front and lowered the rears down with no threads showing and it looks and rides great. Best of luck

I did not cut the rear bushings. You can use longer bolts if you want, but you will have no rake. The rear will be too low. Measure rake on the frame @ the lift points behind front tire and in front of rear.

I cut the front bushings and lowered to the maximum on stock bolts front and rear. Mine came out perfect.

well when i got in there and i took the rear bolts off, i guess i was expecting it to look something like the front did, but i was thrown for a loop when there were two bushings. so, since i wasnt sure which one to cut, and i had already bought the lowering bolts from A&A a few months back, i just decided to keep the bushings intact and use the longer bolts.

one thing is strange though, the passenger side, before adjusting, was far lower than the drivers side. i'd say it was a half an inch lower, with the same measurements on all 4 bolts. this happen to anyone else?

When I measured my car prior to lowering the stock measurements on both sides front and rear did not match. After lowering the side-to-side measurements are much closer, almost exactly the same, within less than an 1/8". The difference was much greater stock. BTW, I used the stock rear bolts lowered to the max.

How much rake should there be? Is there a specific amount to be measured. My car is lower in front, I just don't remember how much, but I'd like to know if I need to make some adjustment.

from what ive read 1/2 inch rake is best for performance, so the front doesnt lift at high speeds. but i would go with a 1/4 inch myself just for the look, i dont think i like the way it looks when it's even all around.

tried longer bolts out back and it is too far. Have to go back to stock and bring it all the way down front and back and see if that does it. Right now I have the west side thing going on but the car likes the rear lower at the track it seems Good post and good info thanks brothers!

I just lowered my car some more.... I took out the front bushings and used a 1/4 inch piece of rubber between the spring and arm and for the rear it has a 8 inch bolt with 3 washers on it b/c 8 inch was just too long and it only gave me 1/16th rake. With the 3 washers i got the 1/2 inch rake

Here are some before and after pics. The before are lowered on stock bolts. The last 2 pics with the car outside are the newest with the most recent lowering. Hope this helps

After lowering, has anyone had trouble with getting the car aligned properly? Anyone know of a good alignment shop in Northern New Jersey. First problem seems to be getting up the ramps to get on an alignment machine. Secondly, is there enough adjustment range when lowered alot?

Yes, alignment was a problem because the guy wasn't sure he could get
it on the ramp. He threw some boards down and got it done, but he
charged me a few extra bucks for his trouble. After it was on the ramp
there were no problems. In his words, "It lined up real sweet." Oil
changes/maintenance at the dealership are another matter. Those
guys aren't willing to take the extra step (boards, etc.); I guess they
don't have time. When I took it in for the leaking rear diff. they charged
me an extra hour of labor to get it on the rack using boards. I'm going
to be needing brakes soon, so I'm seriously thinking about raising it back
up about an inch so I won't have to deal with all their BS whining about
how low it is. The last oil change was also a nightmare. New tires are
problematic too, but the Discount Tire guys in my area are cool and
they deal with it (use blocks, etc.) and don't complain. That's only the
beginning. You also can't drive it just anywhere unless you don't care
about how the rockers look. But, on the flip side, it's a blast to drive
when it's slammed. If I didn't have to deal with the dealership I'd be
fine. I can be careful on the roads and avoid high-centering situations.
I haven't been able to control what happens at the dealer. Good luck.
