C5 Coupe to Vert conversion shell (back glass replacement)
Not long after the C5 was released in '97 i remember seeing an interesting mod. It was a shell that replaced the back glass covering the cargo area and gave the car a near vert open air feel w/ the targa top off. Does anyone know if there are or were available for purchase, how much, and where to see some pics or to purchase? Seems like a decent way to get the vert feel from a coupe if it's not rediculously expensive (and it shouldn't be since it doesn't seem like it would require any non-bolt-on modding).
Actually....I believe it was made for the C4. My body-shop painted and installed one for a customer......absolute nightmare. Very cheap and thinly molded, flexed easily, and rattled badly. Customer removed it after about three weeks.
I swear i saw one for the C5, i even think it extended down to the center console like an actual C5 vert. Did the one you installed have back glass or was it open-air only? Did it lift/open up like the stock back glass to access cargo or was it fixed down? I was thinking it might be good for summer weekend or day trips, not for daily driving. Anyone else?
I've seen what I think you're looking for. There is a conversion kit for the C5 that includes the removable rear window, vert waterfall, etc. I'll send you a few links by PM. I've been thinking about doing this myself.
I can't tell from the picture but it looks like the back window is now air tight or water tight. Anyone else know or can tell if it is?? W/out an air/water tight back window this would not work at all for a daily driver.
EDIT:
I just read in the description that the back window is "flexible" and "velcros" into place. Seems like this wouldn't work well at all for a daily driver (which my C5 will be). Oh well, guess the targa off will need to be enough air in my hair for now.

C5VetteLS1...from what I read the company has like a 97.9% positive feedback, and none of them pertaining to the product described in the link. Actually, there haven't been any in the last 12 months. Not saying I'd try to fit one, but I think most folks these kits are "bolt-ons". I give the guys a thumbs up for adding the statement that these kits indeed need to be fitted and MAY NOT be OEM in fit...
