I just bought a 98 Mag Red 6 Speed. I'm stationed in S Korea and haven't even sat in it yet. 10 days and counting. I still can't believe I got a vette. Anyways, I was wondering what I would need to do to get the car up to 400RWHP. I don't want to go nuts. I would prefer to do it all with bolt ons. I've been looking at exhaust and intake and a lot more but being new to this I would love to get your experienced opinions on this. Thanks in adavance.
I can't help you much except to say keep looking on this forum and you will find an abundance of different answers that can help you. I just didn't want to see your post go totally unanswered and to welcome you as a newcomer and fellow Vette lover. I served in the Airforce as well and my son is currently in Afghanistan. I hope you are home soon and find your 400 ponies! FLYZLOW
May I also welcome you the forum! There are planty of ways to get more HP. I suggest you actually drive it a bit before getting into the mods, as the car is lighter than most people think and it will scoot pretty good as it comes. High flow intake filters, MAF, throttle body, intake manifold, aluminum roller rockers with more lift ratio, long tube headers, high flow cats, and an electronic tuner will get you going. Beyond what this stuff gets you, your into heads and cams, or a blower.
Good luck finishing out your remaining week or so, and then... Welcome Home!

I haven't even sat in it yet but I own the car...
I find this amazing for a couple reasons... We're all so dang **** that we probe, jab, inspect, touch, smell and run carfax reports on everything we even ponder about... plus there is at least one person here that has asked so many questions about buying the last 25 vettes they've seen on the web that it's crazy...
So we see you, with blind faith in the car, simply say, "Hey, I bought a Vette!! Didn't even sit in it!!" That's cool!!
Welcome and thanks for your service to our country!!
If you are looking for power...exhaust will not add anything, most do that for looks & sound. Fast-cats don't help much on a stock engine either as airflow restriction is on the front end not on the discharge. IMHO air intake (I think right now Vararam seems the preference), intake manifold, LT Headers, cam, heads, & PCM tuning is the way I would go.
Intake, long tube headers, and Heads and Cam should get you there.
If just bolt ons, I think you'll have to go with nitrous to get to 400RWHP.
Either way - get a good tuner!
AND - WELCOME HOME!
One word a caution about long tube headers. They need to be loosened and moved aside in order to get to the clutch (bell housinng). So if you ever need a clutch, it's a bigger job.

you are now a vette owner and I can see your happy don't worry so much about the horses and enjoy the ride. It has pretty nasty power to begin with. Don't spend your money on speed. looks are much nicer to the eyes you can see were your money went that way .If you add horse power you have a tendancy want to tear it up and a vette will become an expensive nightmare
Thank you for al the help. I am stationed at Osan AB about an hour from Seoul. David, tell your son to enjoy the trip. There is a ton of stuff to do here. Thanks again
