I used a hockey puck, drilled a hole in it to tightly accept a 3/8" eye bolt that has a 1" eye on it. The bolt is cut to get the right length ....... works like a charm!!!!! Keep in mind, the eye bolt doesn't take any load, it just has to support the puck until the hoist arm or jack reaches it.
All true points c4cruiser... You can certainly make them outta one puck, an orange puck, and lots of other stuff. My car is pretty low too and so I have done the one-puck shuffle. Now I usually just put the jack stands under the front/rear cross-members and call it a day though.

i made my own using regular hockey pucks and #6 eye screws from home depot.
$2 ea for the pucks and $2 for 4 eye screws
$10 total
use a 3/16 drill in the center of the puck and screw them in until they fit so you can lock them with a 1/4 turn.
then grind or file off about 1/8" that sticks thru.
e-z and cheap.

Do a product search for jack support. Put in 1996 model year then 318i. You will see them then.
