Default how much hp to pull 6th gear,

stock gearing, c5 z06. every post i've seen regarding top speed has to do with changing 5th gear rev limit etc...so how much hp would it take to pull mph our of 6th gear? thanks!

Pull to what speed? Near redline would require an awful lot. Probably in the order of 1000hp.

any , if it's 180 ish at 6500 rpm in 5th, then let's just say to put it in 6th and hit 195 or so.

A stock '02 Z will hit 174-5 in 5th. Shift to 6th and you slow down. Don't ask me how I know. I think with stock 3.42's, it's geared to go about 250 @ redline in 6th. To acheive that would take more than 1000 hp IMHO. Air resistance/ drag is exponential, and requires bigger HPgains to make smaller top speed increases, as overall speed is raised.

Here's a link to a top-end related thread that should add to this discussion. Maybe someone would like to resurrect it. It seemed to die a premature death.

About 500, will get you to 190 mph.
750 about 220.

If you are not pro driver or have at least fifteen years racing under you belt and perfectly setup car, I would highly recommend not attempting it.

Stock, at about 145 mph, these cars tend to lift and at 190 the tail will lift.

Interesting. You convinced me. I'm no longer thinking of trying it. ~{;^) I do wonder why GM didn't govern the car if it is that potentially dangerous to us amateurs at 145+. My 94 RX-7 felt rock-solid at 145+.

I hit that (145) at Pocono on the back straight away & my car felt like it was doing 70mph....

I've gone 152 mph and the car felt very stable. I've also never heard of anyone claiming the car felt unstable at speeds over 160 mph.

A roadcourse is much different than a highway. *Generally, a controlled smooth environment. *subject to various varibles. Also, there is generally notice(yellow/red/black/yellow) if there is problem ahead. Tires are also much hotter and stickier.

Highways have all kinds of issues.
Many more occillations. Various debrie; oil, dirt, moisture, etc. Traffic at substantially different speeds, which could result in major changes in momentum. etc.,etc.

EG. I would have zero problem going down Sebring or on the Autobahn at 200+ mph. in the right conditions.

On the highways here, I always use judgement. 120-180 max. depending on conditions.

I did 180 a few days ago. I have a full custom C5R type suspension.

Did you mean on a smooth straight road with no traffic?

I have had my Z06 at 180+, and it was still accelerating, when I had to slow for traffic up ahead. It was completely stable at that speed and the brakes pulled it down to 75 quickly and in a straight line.

Beautiful car. it looks a great deal like my black 02. ~{;^) I have forgotten who makes/sells the spoiler. After all this time, I am thinking maybe I need one.

If you hit and occilations in the road car will you catch air. Less weight on the tires. This is not a problem if you going straight at 145.

When have to change direction/momentum (turn) at speed, then you have worry about keeping max adhesion at 145.

I would not do a spoiler without addtional downforce on the nose (air dam, conards, hood). All you are going to do push down the back and create lift on the front.

Most of spoilers/ground effects sold here are junk.

1) Only use ones that have been wind tunnel tested.
2) tested at speed
3) Used at the track.

I do four wheel skids at 90-120+ mph when I am feeling perfect, very motivated and conditions are right.

Pumba, above is running conards and good 37 degree spoiler. Plus it look as though he is lowered to T-1 height(1.5").

I ran these numbers thru a math simulation program using the Z06 specs, take it for what it's worth.

405hp ~175mph in 5th
450hp ~186mph in 6th
500hp ~197mph in 6th
550hp ~205mph in 6th
600hp ~212mph in 6th
650hp ~219mph in 6th
700hp ~224mph in 6th
750hp ~229mph in 6th
800hp ~234mph in 6th
850hp ~239mph in 6th
900hp ~243mph in 6th
950hp ~247mph in 6th
1000hp ~251mph in 6th
