Default Build Date Question

I have my build sheet, showing a date and time.

My question is, at what point is the build sheet printed? Are the date & times when the car started down the line, when it came off the line, or somewhere in between??

Thanks

The build sheet is produced sometime prior to the build start and accompanies the car down the assembly line as it is being built. As you mention, there is a machine printed date and time at the very top right of the build sheet and this is the only printed date and time that appears on the build sheet. I've asked representatives at the plant several times about the significance of the printed date/time, but have never really received a definitive answer. However, I do know that it is not the build date and time of the car's manufacture.

We took Museum delivery on our car in April 2003. As part of the delivery, we received a VIP tour of the assembly plant. During the tour, one of the plant employees presented us with one of the original copies of our car's build sheet. In the lower left corner of our copy of the build sheet just above the VIN, one of the plant employees had hand scribed our car's build date of 3-24-03 using a red grease pencil, thus the only reason the build date appears on our build sheet. Our car's build date of 3-24-03 is some 12 days after the machine printed date of 03/12/03 that appears on the build sheet. The build sheet though is a very nice piece of documentation to have, especially for the Corvette enthusiast.

Several members here on the Forum have access to GM's Vehicle Inquiry System (VIS) and can inquire the system for your cars history and options as delivered along with the build date. Start a new post in C5 General titled "History Request" and include your VIN in the post. I think all they need is the last 8 digits of your VIN. Hopefully one of these people will come along to run this for you.

Good luck.

the build sheet is the "router" if you will. It is printed in preparation for the build and I've seen anywhere from 1 to 3 full weeks between the build date and the build sheet.

Like others have said they are printed before the build. The date and time on the build sheet is the targeted production time and day from the factory.
