Default 2004 Convertible - Tire Problem

We have a 2004 with 12K miles on it, recently while on vacation (1000 miles from home) we noticed some tire noise and checked the tires. The front tires were seriously cupped (sp?) on the inside and needed to be replaced. We went to a GM Dealer and they replaced them with the same GM runflats, they also told us we needed an alignment - the mechanic then told us it wasn't out of alignment.

Is this common with this car/tires? We're new vette owners and aren't real sure on the ins and outs......

Could anyone please provide us with insight on this....Thanks

This is a great site!

Default How about shocks

Bad shocks can make the tires cup... They don't stay on the road, but do a little hop. This can cup the tires. Shocks shouldn't go bad in 12K, but then again, nothing is 100%.. Usually, the cupping is on the side of the bad shock, but if both tires are cupping evenly, then it may be something else.. That's all I can think of.

Good luck in your search..

Absolutely: Faulty shocks are conducive to producing the wear pattern on the tires that you have just described. Moreover, your shocks may very well be visibly leaking, or, worn. Hence, do inspect and replace your shocks (and other suspension parts) as needed, AND, align the vehicle. Maintain proper and consistent air pressure (30psi cold air pressure reading in the morning). Proper maintainance of the above mentioned factors help to increase tire longevity, and, therefore, even tire wear and rideability. Good luck to you.

This is a great site!
Every '04 I have seen has wear on the insides of the front tires...I was told that GM doesn't align them correctly at the factory...mine started wearing a little abnormally(caught it just in time after 3200 miles) and I took it in for a free alignment(under warranty) and the alignment guy said it was off and he corrected it......he said I should get 30,000+ miles out of the runcraps if I don't drive it like a maniac
