unfortunately, many of us are now about to put out vettes away for the winter... i thought people should post comments/tips/advice as far as how they store their cars and what they do to it (Stabil in fuel, change oil, etc)..
this is also more of a question on my part b/c i have never had to store any vehicles for winter before...
Also, wondering if putting the car on jack stands is a good idea? that would take the pressure off the suspension, but doesn't that screw up anything since it won't be under load for 5 months???
You pretty much covered it, Sta-bil in the gas tank, top off tank, oil change, jack stands if you want, and don't forget the battery charger. Or, you could do what I do, put Sta-bil in it and drive it whenever the roads are clear.
These 2 links contain all the information anyone should need to prepair their car for winter. The only other one I could recommend is shipping it to Texas for the winter. I'm sure some of our members would offer to "take care" of your prized possession.
I put mine away for the winter last night and won't see it again until April 2006. I put five bars of Irish Spring bath soap in the interior and three in the engine compartment. I tried it for the first time last year and didn't have a problem with mice. I also put two large boxes of baking soda in the passenger compartment for moisture. The only other thing I did in addition to adding Stabil was to disconnect the negative battery cable. I parked it on a plastic tarp to keep moisture from coming up through the concrete floor.

I got the information on another car site and haven't had a problem with mice since I started using it. Supposedly, they don't like the smell of dryer sheets either. The only problem is that my car smells like Irish Spring for about two months after I take it out of storage. Now if I run into some Irish mice, that could present a problem.

I did the exact same stuff last week. The only thing different was to park it up on little rugs (don't think it will make a difference, just makes me feel better ).
I use 3 bars of Irish Spring soap on the interior in addition to about 10 (in a 'vert) Bounce dryer sheets. In the engine bay, I place mothballs in the tied-off toes of pantyhose around any wiring. I put probably 5 or 6 of these bundles of 10 mothballs. Also, I lay Bounce dryer sheets all over inside the engine bay as well. The mothballs will definitely keep mice away from any wiring. (Tip: Make a map of where you put the mothballs and don't use black stockings... I could never find 2 of my bundles.)
Steel wool in the exhaust isn't a bad idea, either.
Yes, we get mice in our garage during the winter - but never had a problem with them in the 'vette.
The little rug suggestion is good it will help your tires out. I will be doing the plywood thing to keep those expensive tires from sucking up all that cold from the concrete. I do this always and my garage is heated. It's amazing still how cold the garage floor gets. That's my 2 cents. sixty4.
thanks guys! will do this coming up soon...Even though car is in storage, it will be goin into the shop for some more tuning... but when thats done, ohh baby, time to really store here... :-(

I also increase my tire pressures to about 40 PSI to prevent flat spotting.
