I just installed a k harness and now about every other time I start it that message shows up. Anybody have a clue? It was fine before I installed it.
If you installed the gm k-harness then yes, what you are getting is common. The k-harness has unreliable relays and gm is aware of it and your dealer should be aware also. Last i heard they're " working on it " . Right.........don't hold your breath for a gm fix............
I went through the same problem and kept on the dealer until it was right. It took three days but they finally got it right after they called in the "experts". Another harness and good to go. Stay on them until they fix it.
There have been 2 k-harness' The first had a relay that was black and the 2nd. is white in color. I've had both and gotten the pull key... Dealer tech called gm assistance and they told him to do the "lock plate" and put my wiring back to stock until they resolve the reliability issue of their infamous k-harness. Holding my breath......... with an auto, at least the column won't lock due to the "plate" and my only risk would be if the actuator would go bad.
Thats great. The reason I went with the K harness was because I have heard that the CLB can damage the BCM. I don't know if it is true but I thought the K harness would be the way to go. I guess this is what happens when I think.
The same problem has happened to me twice since I had the recall done (automatic). The car stalls and I wait ten seconds, start it up, and I am on my way. It is inconvenient, but it doesnt happen very often.

I did the same thing, but made sure I got one of the original kits with the black relay and have not had a problem. I have a spare relay just in case.

Well man, you heard wrong. It's been discussed at considerable length here. Forget the GM fix and get the CLB.
I started using a CLB six years ago and it's now been in two different FRCs without a single problem of ANY kind. Screw GM, I threw their recall notices in the trash as soon as they came out of the mailbox.
I installed the CLB it unlocked the colum but would not stop throwing the code I removed the CLB. Went to the delar they installed a whole new lock unit, my car is a 2000 with 90000 mi. . It works perfect now thinking about trying the CLB again .

I just bought a 99 coupe with the six speed and on occasion the car stalls about two seconds after I start it. I restart it right away and don't have a problem. Is this part of the dreaded steering lock problem?
I've had the Harness K in for a year now. Black Relay. And haven't had a problem. I also did the Harness K to avoid problems down the road with the CLB. Maybe you should go back and see if the have a harness K with black relay. My .02
