I was replacing my sway bar on the rear of the car and I noticed salt like deposits and pitting of the frame above the mufflers. Seems to be across the entire width of the frame. I plan to clean it and paint but was wondering if this is a common problem caused by water spray from the tires. I do not live near the beach but do drive in winter so I guess it from the salt on the ground left over after a snow storm.

Thanks.
Sounds like salt/chemical problem to me too. I would recommend cleaning, light sanding and painting, possibly with epoxy paint. If you're getting this corrosion showing up on the frame, you need to keep a close eye out on your electrical ground connections too. They can give you fits with electrical gremlins if you don't.
