We bought our C5 over labor day, so we haven't had it quite two months. Just about every weekend so far has been an adventure.
Three weeks ago we were cruising Mullholland Drive and picked up a 1/4" lag screw in the right rear tire. Fortunately it was short and at such an angle it didn't puncture the tire.
The next weekend my wife took it to the mall and an SUV backed into it. Fortunately his bumper just hit the sidewall of our rear tire. Absolutely no damage.
So this morning the DIC told me the left rear was down to 25 pounds. As I was putting air in, 1/3 of the valve stem broke off, schraeder valve and all. Fortunately there were two or three threads left and I was able to cram the valve cap back on. I still had 14 psi when I got to the nearest Chevy dealer, who wanted me to leave it until Monday (and wanted $100 to remount the tire). Ha! So $65 later I had the air pressure sensor and was on my way to find a Goodyear dealer. "Best Tire Center" in Westchester CA has my business from now on, only $25 and a very pro-Corvette attitude.
I have to say that it was from reading the threads on CorvetteForum that I knew enough about the tire pressure sensors to get this all accomplished. Without the knowledge I found here the car would probably be waiting for the dealer to open on Monday.
Hmmm buy a lottery ticket yet? Sounds like you're a lucky kind of guy.. all of those senario's could have easily been tragic!! Ok, Ok.. Worse than what happened anyway...
Welcome to the C5 Forum... Is is safe to assume you own the Vette in your avatar pic? Sweet!!
Aha!! You do own that sweet older beauty!! I looked at your profile...
The way your luck is going, it sounds like we might be related.
Oh well... keep smiling, because better days are coming. While many of our vette brothers and sisters are putting their cars away for winter hibernation, we get to continue driving!

You're very lucky that things have worked out like they have. If it were me, I would have had to replace a tire, had the car in the body shop for weeks and the shop would have damaged my rim when fixing the tire sensor.
