Default New Key

I have just purchased a new 2nd key from a Chevy dealer in the USA, the code was matched and cut, I can get the key to make everything light up on the dashboard but it will not start the engine, I then have to wait for the 3 minutes before I can use the other key successfully. Can anybody advise me as to what the problem is?

Sure sounds like the wrong VATS code to me....

The key has a resistor pellet on it. Measure the resistance on both sides of the key with a DVOM - and compare them. Are they the same?

. VATS key codes
You need to read the resistance of the key. If you have a digital volt meter, set it on ohms mode and measure the resistance of the pellet on your key. The BCM is programmed for a specific resistance value. The BCM measures the voltage drop across the key pellet. If it is within +-10%, then the car will start.
The 15 resistor codes are:
Key# Value (Ohms)
1 392
2 523
3 681
4 887
5 1130
6 1470
7 1870
8 2370
9 3010
10 3740
11 4750
12 6040
13 7500
14 9530
15 11800

Good luck....

Sounds like you have the wrong resistor value (code).

The are previous posts on how to measure your old and new keys.

Edit: Looks like Blacksedan87 beat me to it.

sounds to me that mr dealer didn't do it correctly. you need to take the new key, your receipt, & the corvette to the dealer to make this right. this should not be overly difficult. bub

Thanks for your help with the key problem, I have jest tested both keys with OHM meter, the readings are as follows
original key - 05.9
new key - 00.5
These readings are with the meter set at 200k, am I testing it correctly, have I got the correct setting on the OHM meter?
The dealer informed me that the key read No.12.

Thanks
