Default Looking at '03 z06

Car was purchased at GM auction by Chevy dealer in May. Still on the lot with 17K miles on it. Silver over black. Has a carbon fiber "airbox" on it and what look to be B&B mufflers. Also has a set of Firestone Firehawk tires. Original manuals, video and window sticker are in the car. Original "airbox" and mufflers are nowhere to be found. Car shows no discernable wear- including no rock chips. Runs out well- although I felt the clutch effort was way light for this car Ask is currently $37xxx, but that is a starting point. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks. (BTW- I started out looking to buy a new c6 z-51 6spd and came across this car which I like).

I think it's pretty difficult to comment considering the the Z51 will be significantly more expensive than the used one. The C5 Z06's are more than capable. If you're looking to track the car go for the C5 Z06, if not, the C6 Z51 is a great daily car. You didn't mention if $$$$ are a factor in your decision.

Well, money is a factor- it is about $10K vs. a 7K mile z-51 1sb car. So, as always, cash talks. No track time. Just looking to enjoy it on the street.

Z51!

It has more creature comforts and your 1/4 mile time is irrelevant between traffic lights. This is no shun on
the 03Z but the C6 Z51 IMO is the right choice given your needs
you mentioned. Bottom line, buy what will not dent your
wallet too much!

Good Luck!

Speaking of "dent your wallet", I think I have spent the last $1400 in maintenance and repair on my Audi S-4 (stoptech brake kit) and am looking forward to some GM reliability and reasonably priced parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we're not allowed to do this in the "For Sale" forum, but I think the price is WAY HIGH on the 03 Z06 you are looking at...

For $37k I'd be looking for a lower mileage 04 Z06 personally.

Keep in mind that an 03 Z06 probably went for mid to upper 40's at MOST brand new. The supply/demand had settled and dealers were dealing on the Z06 by then and that is now a 3 year old car. Check Edmunds and KBB for pricing "guidance."

As for the C6 Z51, you need to evaluate your driving style. I think the guys who are just saying "get the Z51" aren't being fair. It will depend on what kind of driving you do. See my sig... and I don't do any track time either, but I do "enjoy myself" on the street.

You shoud be able to get that '03 for about 33k. The previous owner takes the hit on the nice mods. You're comparing it to a C6 Z51 with 7k miles for $47k, Right? No contest. Get the Z06.

I don't like the mysterious history on the car, either- lack of originality gives it a knock too. And, I think $33K is right at what I would pay for the car. By the same token, the z-51 car would likely go for $43-44K- still around $10K difference.

Prices vary depending on region & time of year. I got my '03 8 months ago for that price, & it had under 7,000 miles at the time, so I think that a fair price for the car you speak of would be about $35k at the most.

33K is about right for that car on the current market. I would definitely go for the Z06.

There are better deals on the forum right now, a member had a 03 EB Z06 with 6300 miles CCW 505 wheels and the car is mint, he was asking $37K or best offer, not sure if it sold yet, $37K for a 17K mile 03 is kinda high if you ask me.
